Has anyone got any problems with their temperature gauge, e.g. reading very cold after driving (1 notch above C) 30 miles.

I been out driving today outside temp. in Scotland at 6am this morning was -5, I drove the car about 75 miles, at speeds 70+ mph. temp gauge never got about C. I poped the bonnet open after this trip and the cylinder head is only warm to the touch. But if the car is left to idle for 10-20 mins. The fan kicks in and temp gauges sits at half way.

Anyone with the same problem, or does anyone know what the problem is.

thanks Malcolm.

temp?

if it warms up stationery and cools once on the move to a low temp its almost certainly the thermostat thats stuck open .its quite comon on the 1.4 and 1.6 you didnt mention which one you drive .and it only comes as a complete casing making it quite expensive .

Engine temp.

Thanks Alan I should have said which car I drive, it is the 1.8 HLX. But I will certainly get the thermostat checked out. Have you or anyone else got any idea how much a new thermostat unit will cost.

Once again Alan for your help.

termostat price

About 100-120 DM for Fiat part. Part number for Bravo 1.8GT is: 60620386. I change my, to.

Engine Temp

I have a Brava in Malaysia and the temp will go above C slightly when the outside temp is hot (30 degree Celsius), not cold. But when the ouside temp is cold (early morning) or when it rains heavily, the temp gauge will point in the middle. But when driving at constant speed, the temp will drop just above C.
