engine tapping

a have recently bought a bravo 1.2 80sx and thre was a slight tapping noise from it but today it got worse and is there constanly. has any 1 had this problem before.

1.2 egine is very tappetty at cold anyway, mine is

just the way they work over time I guess

i checked the oil it was fine but it sounds like a metalic rattle as if some thing has broke off. could u shed some light on the problem

had the Timing belt changed ??

no its still the orginal timing belt the car has only done 36888 miles. its souns like a camshaft or tappet noise

Tensioners on cambelts have been known to fail premeturley (sp) unlikley tho
When was it last serviced?

it was going for a service next week.is it easy enought 2 strip the rocker cover of 2 see the camshafts and tappets

How old is the car?

its a v reg 2000

Time for a cambelt change. 5 years or 60-70k.

Probably quite easy if you follow the instructions. But easier and safer to get it done by a garage. If they screw up its their fault, if you screw up you're screwed.

awrite do u replace the tensioner as well

Yes, otherwise they can fail when they get really old.

Take the cam cover off. Its in the haynes manual.
