Hello guys ,
I'm wanting a bit more power in my car so thinking of placing another engine into it ? so was wondering if anyone could give me a heads up on any good engines to put in with good performance and not to much work (obviously there will be quite a bit tho lol)? any help would be great if anybody has done this before and Any tips or lists of engines to make life a bit easier ? thanks guys.btw I have a 1.2 8v active punto mk2

Hi,
quite a common question,
if you are young, and insurance is expensive - HIGH, you would be better off buying a
16V / sporting that's in standard trim - than modifying a 1242cc 8 valve,

if insurance is o.k. and you want to spend time + money modifying.. then there are LOTS of options..,
Charlie

Thanks for the reply mate, yep insurance is pretty high at the moment but would be willing to pay for a bit more performance ?

As above mate, it all comes down to insurance, if you have the cheap insurance and the NCD then go for it.

I have been looking at mine thinking a Mitsubishi FTO 2.0 V6 would fit in there nicely but it would be a massive amount of work.

it all comes down to a few things, Budget, Comitment, Insurance, what you want (turbo/NA), I could keep going.

if your still young and short on NCD then as above, sell it and buy a 16v.

Slightly off subject has anyone fitted or tried fitting a 2.0 20v turbo coupe engine in a punto. I was a big vw man mk2 golf's and polo's I know a vr6 and also the 20v turbo fitted in a polo with custom mounts and a lot of time and work

I know a lad that fitted one into his mk1, he said it handled like a dog but went like stink lol

lol no different from a red top in a corsa, did he manage to squeeze it in the front I bet it would be a bit nose heavy did he have to relocate the battery and other stuff in the boot?

he said worse than a redtop corsa lol, he went on to say he ate front tyres on a weekly bases not just cos of wheel spin but lift off understeer, with the 20vt in it refused to go around corners, he tried Toyo R888's which fixed it in the dry and stopped understeer but the wheel spin killed them in weeks and in the wet it was 100x worse, he actually said he hated it and preferred it when it was a plain stock GT.

Lol tires ant cheap ether sound like a tool in a straight line but you have to go around corners is there many conversation that can be done that are worth while and go around corners lol

his 20vt was running around 240bhp and at the time I had my Cinq which was 100bhp ish, yes he killed me in a straight line but around teeside I was 2secs per lap quicker due to superior handling.

I would rather have a slow car that handles than a fast car that don't.

With Mario here, but FIAT themselves popped a Mk1 Punto shell onto Integrale running gear. You can bet that went pretty well.

For ordinary mortals (assuming you can't pick up a rusty 'grale for a song), rear engine is the way to go. A Mk2 HGT (with the lump out of a 2 litre 155 or 156) would be interesting, although nothing like as easy as it would first appear.

Essentially, if you can't weld to a professional standard, forget it.

I do agree would be interesting to put a 1.8 or something in one so it's not too heavy on the front so it don't under steer but you still have the power with a tidy power weight combo. I understand if you can weld and you don't now one end of a spanner to another don't both with any conversation and if you don't have deep pockets and lots of time. Just intrigued me as with the vws there was loads of conversation same with vauxhall cinq sound lots of fun.I saw a members one in the gallery and it looked sick but for me it's a bit small

anyway back to reality

i'm not being funny here but what is the point of this???? its a thread about engine swaps and what could be possible and whats just silly. bit of a comment just to wind people up in my eyes.

If you had said "anyway, back to OP" that would have made sense.

There's reality and there's reality.

this.

But the time, money, skill and sheer bloody mindedness of the first two (turbonutter's Alfa V6 turbo, MR2 turbo gearbox Stratos replica and Charlie's V12 SD1) stretch reality pretty much to the limits.

I was talking to a friend and he recons he can get a Z20let out of a Mk4 astra GSi into a Mk2 punto lol 2.0T 16v with 200bhp+ in a mk2, hmmmmm that sounds tempting.

Can't see it not fitting, but the problem would be making it handle!

yes
im surprised fiat didnt fit that engine to be honest
but then i guess they thought a punto shell was maybe not suitable so left things like big engines into shoehorned engine bays to other depts like Ferrari i guess

anyway back to reality:D
