Hi All.
Just got my car a few weeks ago, and there is one problem that I can't figure out. Looked through many threads on here, and my Haynes manual, but can't seem to find the same thing.

1991 Uno 1.1 ies

Engine starts fine, but as soon as any torque is applied (eg. engaging the clutch), it will stall, unless the throttle is fluttered quite rapidly. Even then, it needs a fair ammount of revs/fluttering to acually be able to move. If the throttle is held down, but still, it will stall. Has to keep moving.
This happens until the engine is warm (5-10 mins). After that it runs fine, but the tickover is high. I would guesstimate about 1100rpm. If I place my foot behind the accelerator and pull it upwards, the revs drop to normal.
I've changed the fuel filter, and leads ect. seem ok.
I noticed that the round plunger type device next to the throttle cable plate doesn't touch the end of it, if that has some meaning. I remember once, it popped out, and the revs went down to normal. Of course, by then, the engine was hot, so had no way of knowing if that made it run ok from cold too.
Fuel consumption seems way too high also.

Hope someone can help, as it's not great sitting revving the thing for 10 mins before I can leave! :(

Hi,

It might be worth changing the thermostat, as if yours is not closing when cold the engine will take some time to warm up. I know from my own experience that if it is stuck open then it takes ages to warm up and during this time it is difficult to drive smoothly.

Hi,

Think that is working ok. Warms up pretty quickly. The problem, as I said before, when it's warm, the revs are way too high. Putting my foot under the pedal, and pulling it up makes it drop to a normal level. I got someone to look at the cable linkage by the engine, and it didn't appear to move at all, so wouldn't seem to be that the cable is too tight. Is there some sort of sensor by the pedal itself? Only other thing I noticed, is that the 'stopper' for the cable linkage is something like 1½cm away. Surely they should be touching when the pedal is not depressed. But, it is against the switch on the bottom (what does that do). Perhaps there is a way to adjust that switch inwards so the linkage will travel further?

I'm a bit lost with this motor, to be honest. Only ever had a carb, or injection engine. Not this 'hybrid' thing

Good news is, it just passed the MOT :D

I SOLVED IT! :D

And guess what the problem was. After trying all the different things, I noticed a small rubber washer on the cable (about ½cm thick), between the end of the pedal, and where the cable goes through the bulkhead. I assume someone had changed the cable, and that was meant as a gromet? That was just making the cable a little too tight. Cut it off, did the 'battery disconnect re-set' thing, and now it runs perfectly. Keeps running while warming up, and the tickover is fine once it's warm. :)
I'm hoping that also solves the large petrol consumption too, but I'm guessing it will.

Now I'm a happy bunny.
