I hope some of you out there can help.
When I'm driving and take the car out of gear when I stop at lights for example the engine revs drop right down to 5000rpm before they pop back up again to 7500rpm. This isn't always a problem but sometimes this will cause the engine to just stop running.
Anyone any ideas ?

I have this problem too sometimes, moreso when the engine is hot. Revs will drop right down and sometime she just quits if i'm not quick enough with the welly. I'm assuming that you mean 500rpm and 750rpm Stu?

Anyway this can be a right pain when it happens as somtimes it's very difficult to restart.

Help us!

Re: Re: Engine revs drop too far when taken out of gear

Sorry, I did mean 750 and 500 RPM as opposed to the thousands. Anyway, it's only started recently although I haven't had much problem getting it restarted, but it did struggle a bit this morning but I think(hope) that was more due to the weather.

Engine revs drop

I had this problem on a VW Golf and it turned out to be the fuel filter. Don't know if this is revelant but its worth a try.

Here's an updated on what the problem was. It just turned out to be gunk in the throttle body. They cleaned that out and reset the ECU and it's purring away again.

Fuel starvation, correctly diagnosed by the learned gentleman.

Change fuel filter and have injectors cleaned. Properly.
