Hi, how can i tell what size engine is in a marea just by looking at it? And if i changed my 2.0 20v would i have to also change the electrics i.e. ECU, immobiliser etc or will it just fire up after fitting?

cheers trev.

should just fire up.

the give away is it'll have 5 cylinders and be petrol.

all the other engins are 4 cyinder... apart from the 5 cylinder JTD diesel... but it'l look loads different to yours :)

plus go have a look on the boot... it'll tel u there also ;)

Cheers tommy, now another couple of questions, could i put a smaller engine into my marea or would it entail huge mods to get it in and would this affect the ecu etc?

putting a smaller engine would be alot of work. stick to the same engine. and make sure u get an engine of the same year, or around there anyway.

there are 2 types of 20v engines.

147bhp & 155bhp
Mk1 & Mk2

the Mk2 says VIS on the plastic cover.

There's a later third version of the VIS 1998cc engine, fitted in 20v Mareas, (from 09/2000 onwards) - the 150 BHP 'Euro3' emmisions version, with also more low-down torque and supposed better fuel economy, but it looks the same as the earlier '155' engine.
