engine rebuilds or replacement? i have a 165 bravo 2lt sport that has now blown its engine via a failed coolant pump. dose anyone know or recommend someone who can fix around Portsmouth. the next question is would anyone recommend it. its a 2009 with few marks, a full glass roof, black 18" alloys with recent new tyres all round. it also has a tidy full black leather interior, recent front discs, pads, springs and sway bars

thanks for the reply. I'm not tec,ed enough to to know for sure but the bravo and Giulietta i heard are pretty matched . .its more of finding a reasonable company that can do the total repair that's the big issue. it just seems a waist as the car has no rust or damage

Do it yourself

Or

Pay a garage

Head gasket set, head bolts, Plus pump and timing set isn’t expensive

Labour and machining is

You can’t really assess the damage until it’s been stripped.

9 times out of 10 the damage isn’t extensive.

I faced the same dilemma with my Bravo due to gearbox needing rebuild. Mine was 105K on the clock and everything else was in exceptional condition. Unfortuately it was just not worth repairing and was traded as a good runner for £800 that was a 2013 1.6D. If you can find a suitable engine from another car it might be possible to swap out the core engine and transfer all the ancilliaries and ECU over. Anything else would be financially unviable. The only thing is these are very good cars, and to get something better will also cost. Depends on whether you like the car enough to take a fair sized gamble. 5 years on I still miss that car.

your response has hit the nail on the head as the bravo is still very tidy all; round' has been a pleasure to own and still gave a "BUZZ" to drive and very really see another in any carpark i visit so i am still undecided as to its outcome as of yet.

update to engine issue and thanks to "veresecrazy" i managed to have a good conversation with Mark at small car services in bore hunt and he is adamant that it is a bent cam rod among the pump and belts repair cost should be around £800. this is manageable against a new engine or worse a new car. being a busy fiat specialist i still have to wait another 2 weeks for the definitive answer as that is the earliest available time slot to do the work, so fingers crossed. ill update the good or bad news then.

Indeed.. hes done that twice !!

Its a Golf Diesel..and because of used price madness would cost £10k to replace... so it got fixed..again
Why do these tin cans have such a grip on us , £10 k on a cherished old VW or £10k on a brand new deawoooooo!!! I guess the the repair 99% of the time wins. Blooming sentimentality 🫣

so the time has arrived to give the final update on my poor 165 MultiJet as its been quite a few weeks now, just encase anybody is interested.
so i sent the car to Small Car Services in Bore hunt and their diagnosis was correct in that the pump had failed resulting in the belt jumping off and damaging rocker arms. soooooo after 6 new rocker arms and a complete new timing belt set including new water pump and drive belt, plus engine oil and filter, and a annoying 12 day wait for a new timing belt cover from Italy, its alive again and even quicker than before.
the total cost was £810. which i thought was pretty decent.
a huge thanks to verescrazy for the recommendation and a definite thumbs up to Small Car Services, especially my contact mark who constantly gave in-depth feedback throughout.

Do let us know what you find :)

A friend had similar recently with a VW.. turbo failed.. needed an engine

Used cars are massively overpriced currently.. so a £3+k repair was cost effective

Obviously depends on your Bravos worth..

Both to you and a trader
