Engine Out on a 155HGT

Hi All, Just looking for a bit of advise, I will be collecting Von's HGT on Saturday next week. I plan to take the engine out myself and either take it to get the dead sensor replaced at a trusted garage or even do the job myself.

I know there is hardly no room in the engine bay but I plan to have the car on axle stands disconnect the drive shafts, pipes, wires to all sensors, exhaust downpipe remove the battery tray and as much as possible have the engine on the crane and then disconnect the mounts go in from the N/S wheel arch and remove what bolts i can from the lower end of the cover to the cam belt

Question is if I then lower the engine at the gearbox side and try to angle it up at the cam belt side and move it what maybe 6" to the n/s if it will go that far? I may need to remove the whole o/s strut and wheel assembly but that's not an issue do you think i can create the space and what would be best to get the pulley off without up setting the timing...

Any advice or pointers would be appreciated

Good luck with it mate, thats all i can say ..Youd probably be better taking the box out aswell that leaves plenty of room to pull the engine straight out the top, rather than leave that in? as that was our first plan initially.

That almost sounds like a challenge...lol are you saying that when your engine was taken out the box came off first, if you took thebox off that said you must of had to move it inches to the right (o/s) to get it off, hence why i think you should be able to move the engine and gear box together at least 3"...

yer the box came off first.took all mounts off and left the box bolted to the block.Undon them all then lifted it off the fly and just dropped the box.Didnt move the engine as it was still bolted in.Was just a case of tilting it to ease up getting the box off.

But like you said,im sure you can move the engine a few inches as sure a few ppl have done a cambelt change with the engine still in.

But its totally upto you how you go about it.You might go how you want to do it then find ur struggling then you might think, sod it.the box is coming off lol

You can do most jobs on a HGT without removing the engine, im taking the cooling pipe from round the back of the block, having to take a LOT of stuff off but can be done without removing the engine

Ok, well i think ill first look at the option of moving the whole engine and gbox to the n\s a few inches see what sort of space it creates..

Can anyone confirm the best way to lock the pulleys in position so as not to disturb the timing or am i best just clearly marking them then take the belt off, would i be best to loosen the pulley whilst the belt is on or would that be ill advised...??

NO WORRIES BUDDY, ITS NOT A BAD JOB TO DO REALLY! JUST BE METHODICAL OK!!

Well just been to the scrapy and had a practice on a coupe 20VT got the pulley off no prob and the cam sensor was easy enough just 2 bolts, however the wire runs behind the other pulley, and round to the back of the engine, took that pulley off and mashed the cam sensor but still at least i know how not to do it know.... lol

Roll on tomorrow.....
