ok here again.

been trying to get a price on a turbo conversion guy reckons 2500 for turbo conversion. another 1000 on internals and i could have 200 bhp. not bad except i dont have 3500. and the insurance goes through the roof.

so know i am thinking other mods.

super chipping it or piggy back. some 1 tell me wat the advantage of each is and wats best. and where to get 1 if some 1 knows.

a full exhaust system. i want bhp gain. wat should i go for and where. was gonna go power and performance custom jobby. manifold, decat, sport back box.

wat else can be done with out turbo'ing to get my power up. cos the 1,6 is a slow car. i drove a 1.6 colt last night, 1.6 corsa, 2 litre 306. all were faster than mine.

HELP

Have you considered a small shot of Nos?

25 or 50bhp 'should' be safe with the engine and give you that bit extra whenever you need it. (i.e. when the aforementioned Corsa or Colt pulls up next to you at the lights)

no to the turbonator that dont work.

new engine is out. as i cant find a good engine to put in.

nos is an option but then i need a steering wheel with buttons and i cant find and boss's

Smee

lee chap, you don't need a steering wheel with buttons at all. you can get them as a convienience but all you will need is a button/switch.
you can get them from anywhere ;)

cos i love my car. i dont want to get rid of it

Fair point...

Have you looking into supercharging, i don't they are as car specific as Turbo's?

Daz

Superchargers are just as engine specific.

Smee, your gearbox and drivetrain won't take 200BHP. You'd spend your entire life having clutch, gearbox and diffs replaced.

Looks like it's either a engine swap or some NOS then...

re

you dont need buttons on steering wheel!

Ribzz had his switch so it kicked in when he was on full throttle, by putting switch in engine bay by throttle i think?

and if you look there will be plenty of engines out there! but insurance will go up!

why not put rst lump in or somehting, anythgin can be done!

i dont want 200bhp. he said it could do it if the boost if opened up. i want 150 - 175 max. if i cant get 140 bhp with out turbo ill be well happy.

Smee

re

ther are lots of 1.6 turbo's out there with 200bhp, but it will be a lot of work doing it, it will prob be cheaper to get standard 2ltr turbo engine!

maybe try www.guycroft.co.uk i think, or somethign like that.

he is good with all fiat engines, maybe he could do a turbo conversion on yours!

i'm sure he could find the right internals or have them made!

Re: re

morning walls'o. thanks for the advise. that link dont work goes to www.what.co.uk.... problem i have is i had an accident 2 year ago and only just got a no claim back. so i cant insure such beasts. i dont know any 1 that will drop an alfa 156 1.8 twinspark in. cos then nige can tune it. SUCH A CRUEL WORLD

Re: re

Smee, nitrous systems are activated from the throttle, not a button.

175BHP will still endanger the clutch/gearbox/diff.

You are aware that any mod, even a small one, is going to skyrocket your insurance. Anything more than a few % increase will put it up ALOT!

You don't have the money to do the mods, you don't have the money to insure it and from the sounds of things you don't have the money to maintain the car properly at the mo. Adding BHP will really increase the maintenance.

Re: re

i maintain my car very well thank u chap. except when i filled it with oil. unlike u tom boy u have a garage to get u car in and out when u feel like it. i dont have this. due an mot at the end of the month. which i already know it will fail on the bushes. which is gonna be replaced at the same time. also the clutch bearing, well it works fine just rattles so i aint chaanging it till its goes. like i said I WOULD BE HAPPY WITH 140 BHP. and as for money I CAN INSURE IT 40 bhp increase = 40 % load on insurance. i choose not to get a bigger engine to to save me money. as i believe 140 bhp is do able in the 1.6 and will be satisfactory for wat i need

Re: re

Have you checked with your insurance that 40% more BHP means 40% more money?

And are you prepared for the 10-20% DECREASE in MPG? :)

I don't have a garage to put the car in, its full of my machine shop and PA gear.

Re: re

yep my mate works at flux. i told him about turbo conversion he said NO WAY. told him about engine conversion he also said NO WAY. due to my accident ill have to wait. told him about 50 bhp turbo he said he can do it. i asked how much and he told me how it works roughly. 40 bhp isnt exactly 40% but its aint far out.

i dont pay for petrol for work use. only personal.
