Just bought a 2003 fiat stilo 1.9 jtd, its brilliant. However one or two problems did come along with it. Everytime i reach 80 mph it flashes up on the computer 'engine fault' and a red pic comes up on the dash. Any ideas?
Also, says prheat failure when i put key in ignition. I understand it to be the glow plugs. If i change them, will this stop or does the computer need to be reset?

Hi, Welcome to the FF.

Please do not PM me (and probably other members) with individual problems. The idea of the forum is that all members can contribute to, and possibly benefit from, the thread. (y)

The engine fault at 80mph doesn't suggest any known common fault.

Pre heat failure could be one or more glow plugs faulty or the relay that controls them or a wiring fault.

You need to get the fault codes read or buy your own code reader and post the results.

If you choose to buy your own code reader, your 2003 jtd is unlikely to be EOBD compliant so the cheap eBay ones may not be suitable.

sorry for pm davren. wasnt sure i was using this thing right as no one wrote on the page.

not sure T14086, its just when it hits 80, thats when it comes up engine fault accompanied with a red icon. How do i look to see if its the speed restriction/warning?

The speed warning sounds a beep and shows "Speed Limit Exceeded" in the speedometer display panel. My 2003 jtd MW also shows a yellow warning triangle but I don't think later models do.

You can check and adjust the speed warning using the "MODE" button on the right of the dashboard. It's explained in the owner's manual. Here's a link to a pdf version if you don't have one. It's a 2006 edition, but most things are the same.

If you don't have an account with RapidShare, click "Free User" then you need to wait for about 60 to 90 seconds then click the download button.

Hi i have just read this thread and realised the same happens in my GP recently. Im glas it can be changed back by using the MENU in the cars computer system. Anyway... this "fault" only occured when,,, I was driving like any other average day then getting out my car then returning I had a random airbag failure warning with no working electrics ( indicators etc ) I thought OMG! then by switching the ignition off and on again everything seemed fine and it returned to its normal self.

After this event when hitting 25mph this "Speed Limit Exceeded" warning is displayed. Do you think I should get this checked or just change the Speed limiter back and carry on as normal as it seems fine.

Thanks (y)

Software Updates? Are these done in a service or MOT then because I have never heard about software updates.

How should I go about getting these updates then?

Thank You (y)

Turned speed limit off thanks....wasnt that as the 'engine fault' ' comes up still. But least i know about the the speed restrictor ect.
Its not actually when it hits 80mph, it appears when the revs reach just under 30 x 1000. I'm presuming its the turbo? Any ideas? Or should i take into a fiat garage, anyone know the standard price to get it on a diagnostic machine?
