When my engine is cold e.g. in the morning I get the Engine failure.
After a trip, and the engine bay is warm then after a restart the failure is gone but when the car is stalled, after 4 to 6 hours the failure is there again.

Engine is running good, no extreme consumption or what so ever.

Already cleaned and dried the D4 connector.
Had the battery on a charger overnight but that didn't help.

What else is there to check?

thanks in advance

read the fault code , this might give you a hint in the right diection...
read your battery voltage in the morning before you start the car - it has to read 12v minimum , if it reads less you might consider to change it for a new one with more capacity.

My experience with my 1.9 JTD is that the car always needs to be started two times when it's cold. When it's warm it will start from the first time. I get no lights or errors. Just when i start it , it won't work the first time.
Letting it preheat a little longer than the light on the dash asked me to solved the problem most of the time.
Generally, i got used to starting it two times now. Altough at first i was surprised by its behavior... Never had it before with other cars or Fiats.

This afternoon I cleaned and air dried all the fuse and other connectors at the battery bay and the two major connectors.
Just one hour ago with minus 5 degrees the battery is 12.38V.
So will see to morrow morning if this is still the same and if all my work had some success, at the moment I believe it is a moisture problem because when the engine en engine bay is hot the problem is gone So!!!!!

Solved,
This morning the battery was 12.10V.
Started the car without any warnings.
I'm confided (I hope) that moister was the cause and that I'm released from
the errors.
