Driving along on the M6 at 70mph, then suddenly a loud bang, a huge cloud of smoke, and the engine died...

A moment of sadness and disruption of holiday - the AA towed us to a service station and determined that the engine had seized up, most of the oil gone (from max. where it was an hour ealier to min.) and suspected that "the turbo blew, sucked out all the oil and the engine died" ?!

Anyway, looks like engine is properly dead...

...If replacement required, who to turn to? What to expect?

Found this website: www. fiatducatoengines . co . uk - comments on that?

Any helpful suggestions more than welcome,

cheers

Sorry about the lack of info, the post was written in the middle of the night in despair - engine is in a 2001 Ducato motorhome.

As such it still represents quite a lot of value (especially to us), so we more than keen to find a way to repair/replace and desperate for advice :)

6 on ebay at the moment ,or consider having yours rebuilt, also replace the turbo and associated pipework if faulty .

Thanks.

Do you or anyone else know of a reliable/capable garage near Lancaster in the North West who can do sort out either/any of these options?

cheers

Beware sites offering rebuilt engines. You want to deal with a company who is a member of FER,
https://fer.co.uk/
The company I indicated on the other forum, Lancaster Engines is a member.
Rebuilding your existing engine is the direction I would take providing there is someone with the necessary skills to do so. The 'bigbang' you quoted is worrying as a hole in the block is not fixable. If this is the case a SH engine as a parts source may be needed.
If the Turbo failed a complete strip down of the engine is needed , just bolting on a new turbo is a waste of time.
