Been getting this fairly regularly recently on my 2000 jtd, usually when going uphill (coincidence?). No change in engine note or power, when the engine is stopped and restarted all is ok untill the next time it happens.
We've had this twice before in the past but accompanied by immediate rough running which turned out to be faulty injectors. As the car runs fine I'm not sure, and the wife doesn't want to involve the dealer (kerching!!)as the cars still going from a to b. Any idea's anyone?

The fact you say its when you go uphill, tends to point to a boost problem, if turbo boost pressure is not achieved in a certain time it causes a pressure related error to be recorded, some cars go onto limp home and others dont depending on the error and software of the ecu. Look for air hoses leaking, intercooler links and turbo actuator operation, any more than that would be dealer.

Thankyou kindlly NumanR,Will check out the areas you've metioned at the weekend.

Had a similar problem- warning message appeared under full throttle and full load at higher revs (eg accelerating to join a motorway on an uphill sliproad).
The non-Fiat independent garage I use tried lots of things, but nothing cured the problem.
After a diagnostic check at a Fiat dealer, turned out to be a faulty MAP sensor.
No doubt there are lots of other things that would give the same message, but a new MAP sensor is relatively cheap, and easy to get at to swap, so might be worth a punt?
Cheers
Neil

Thanks for that Neil, I'll have a look at the MAP as well, check for split hose etc.

Spent the morning doing a fluid/filter service and had a look at the items suggested. No obvious problems so I'm going to leave it for now and get a diagnostic at the dealer at some point,as I'm reluctant to replace anything on a 'it might be that' basis......but thanks for the suggestions guys.
Noted o/s/f lower arm shot and a local independant quoted 90 quid plus vat supply and fit which seems pretty good.Being done monday and for that price i'ts not worth the skinned knuckles and swearing to do it myself.A/R/B bushes looked ok so hoping the lower arm will quieten down the front end.

Sorry mate,a genuine oversight on my part now corrected!!!!(y)

Thanks for that Rolo, and you T, I feel fulfilled now:D I can face the end of November with joy in my heart knowing my wife is trying unilaterally to bring the whole country out of the recession by spending all my bloody money:cry:

 You guy's are running multi's and you've still got some money to spend!!:D

Hi all.
The problem has now developed into a definate failed injector, the third one since I bought the car.The last straw as far as I'm concerned, got a very good part exchange deal on a 55 plate zafira so i'ts goodbye to the multi and back to the ranks of the anonomous masses!! The constant ,and substantial repair bill's right through my period with the car (and the previous owner's) have become too much.It makes a mockery of the fact that this otherwise great car is often billed as the ideal MPV for those on a budget.
Would like to thank all those who have contributed to this excellent forum during my time with the car, posting and searching back threads has been a huge help with the many issues......CHEER'S GUYS AND GALS!!! (y) :worship:

Rolo...I think you have a underlying problem here which I have came across on many occasions. I would be carefully inspecting a sample of fuel for contamination which is 'taking out' the injectors, I would also be looking at the pressure regulator & its 'seat' for debris.

Thanks for that, but the problem is no longer mine, vauxhall dealer took the car knowing about the injector problem. I would say though that the fuel filter has always been replaced right on schedule and we rarely use supermarket fuel. Also a quality diesel cleaner additive has been used regularly.

Reading this I could weep, the same thing sounds to be happening to my Multipla..... failing injectors with the ear-splitting beeping and engine warning light coming on. If I had the money (thanks to the recession no work) I would be getting shot of my much previously loved Multi for a Ford or Vauxhall.

Out of interest, the non-FIAT garage I use reckons that Multipla's Brava's and Marea's are famous for failing injectors...... hmmmmm why don't they come with a warning then!??? 'CAUTION: This car will cost you an arm and a leg in repair bills' would justb about do it.

what I find amazing on here is that people always look at other car makes with rose tinted glasses, as though they are somehow much more reliable than fiats, I have ran fiats since 2002, and yes they have had problems, prior to that I ran citroens, I owned two zx's without much problems, I then changed to a xara, which was a terrible car, when the car was 18 months old and 30 k miles the power steering pump collapsed at speed and caused a 1k damage to the engine, after that I had a piccasso, that was a pig of a car plagued with electrical problems, so I switched to postman pat doblo, which did 90k miles without fault. My late father paid 15k for a top of the range golf diesel, it ended up off the road for a month at 18 months old, in the end the vw dealers needed to replace the entire engine management system, it was out of warranty in the end vw paid as a good will gesture.
The worst problem I ever had on a fiat was a doblo with a failed gearbox, but it was nearly 3 years old, I could get fiat to pick up the tab, but considered I got off lightly at £700 for a recon gearbox and new clutch (from a gearbox specialist) so in my honest oppinion fiats are no more or less reliable than other makes.
The things that irrate me with the franchises are they dont seem to stock many parts that fail regular such as waterpumps on the multijets, so you end up waiting a week for them to get the parts in stock.
I did once own a new motorhome based on a ducato which had a horrendous water ingress problem in the engine caused by poor design, which took ages to solve, but this problem was also present on the citreon and peugeot vans.
The good thing about fiats is there is fab discount to be had when new, and if you look second hand you can pick up a bargain.
