ok, so i have a mk1 60s mia, and i have a mk1 1.2 16v engine which im putting into the 60s. is there a difference in engine bay wiring? as I've found 2 connector blocks on the engine, and I've found the 2 on the car itself, but one isn't the right size or shape, any ideas?
thanks

if you look at the one of me holding the connectors its the one on the left. if you look at the engine bay picture, its the large multiplug under the gold plate, this is where the left connector im holding is meant to go

Sporting should be multi point injection, your 60 will be SPi, so you will need all the wiring, ECU, immobiliser and key set from the Sporting.

Either that or Megasquirt.

Check out the Cento part of the forum for info on using the SPi stuff on an MPi, but its not the best way.

Cheers

yeah I've literally got the wiring actually attached to the engine, and all the dashboard wiring has all been changed to sporting, and its a sporting fusebox. i have the ecu. where is the immobilizer located on the sporting? and is it vital to have it?

alright that was a big help :) so ive narrowed it down to it being said:

- that if you earth the fuel pump, this will disable the immobilizer.

does this sound right, or is it wrong?

You need the ECU, Body Computer and Ignition Key set from the same car. Anything less wont work. This does assume the electronics were working before the car was stripped.

But you had it started so now need to methodically do all the usual diagnosis stuff from sparks to throttle opening etc etc.

if anyone has a mk1 16v sporting, i would highly appreciate it if anyone could possibly take a couple of pictures of the wiring loom that comes of the back of the engine like the 2 multi plugs in the pictures above, or just tell me the location of the two multi plugs and whether the two multi plugs connect to the same loom or two separate looms. i would appreciate this a lot. many thanks.

i think you are refering to the d4 plug on the engine loom. the bit that connects the engine loom to the in-car loom? if so im pretty sure the plugs are identical but the wiring to the plugs are different. again many 1.2 8v to 16v conversions done in the cento section. might get a better responce there.

there are also wiring diagrams for the 16v engines in that section too so go give it a search.

as for immobiliser. if you get the immob removed completely then once wiring is sorted any key will start the car. if you keep it you need the immob chip, areal for the ignition barrel and the code box under the dash.

you will also want to swap the fuel pump from the spi to the mpi fuel pump from the 16v as they have a larger pressure output and run the 16v engine much more smoothly. although i suppose not needed its recommended.

edit the left one on your second picture is definatly the d4 plug. they are wired differently for the 8v and 16v. you will need to get another male and female d4 inorder to wire up your own adapter. all wiring are in the cento section with a quick search.

thanks very much clock34 that was a big help. so im just going to strip all the wiring from a sporting if i can find one anywhere.

and im not sure if the 1.6 sporting and the 1.2 sporting are wired the same westwood

what ecu are you going to run for this engine? easiest way is getting the 16v ecu getting it decoded by someone like reddy4bed on here and then just making your own d4 adapter.. but you need to know what wires are what and be confident. replacing the incar loom aswell is a massive job and easily goes wrong.
