Hi,
im looking to upgrade my 1.2 8V as its a bit on the slow side haha and was wondering if it would be a straight swap for a 1.4 16V or if i wud have to go for a 1.4 8V
Thanks:D

It will cost more 2 trade in and upgrade. and i am gona do just need 2 no if 16v would be a straight swap if not il ask dwn garage sat but i just wanted to no which engine to buy 2mo.

No engine is a straight swap except a like for like one.
Budget £2000+ for a engine conversion to starjet/tjet at a garage plus £1000+ for bigger brakes, uprated supension and then for the extra insurance which will be far more than for a standard 1.4 16v.
It's just not worth it when you can buy a car with that engine and all the thing required as standard.

No it wont. Will cost upwards of 1k even for a simple swap. Then you have to declare it as an engine swap to your insurance company and DVLA which will make it alot more expensive to insure than a standard 16, no one will want to buy it when you come to sell as they will just buy one that is a 1.4 16v as standard. And you will need to upgrade alot of other stuff aswell which makes it completely pointless when you can upgrade to one that has it all as standard.

I suspect this will go in one ear and out the other but not like it matters as you wont do it anyway. Only people that do engine changes are people that have a slight clue about stuff which i cant say is being displayed here.

You been to Subtlty School Matt? :p Well done! :D

Im just close to a ban so i have to be careful :p

;)

TBF he sounds like a young lad, and who amongst us can honestly say we never had the same dream?

Back "in the day" it was easy, I put a 1500cc Cortina engine & box into a 997 Anglia... and the brake / suspension issue became scarily obvious!

But even THAT was easy back then...

Not these days sadly... Let him down lightly... (y)

Completely pointless unless its going to be something someone hasn't done before, but then that is stupid money.

I learnt my lesson when i put a vts engine in a 1.4 saxo... the amount of problems is rediculas! You permanently need to buy another part on top of upgrading the brake system to handle the extra power.

After i finally got it completed no insurance would insure me for a sensible amount (most just said no lol), so i had to end up selling it and wasted a load of money!:bang:

All i think now is if you want a quick car, get one that is already quick. Otherwise just keep the car youve got and make it pleasing to the eye lol :D

Save your money for something gd (y)

Hopefully this helps you:p

When practicality and reality are factored in any advantages are quickly outweighed by the disadvantages. Nice idea in theory, but in the big picture its just not worth the time, money and effort........put it back to bed (y)

can i ask...why would you want to swap from a 1.2 to a 1.4? Sure it's gonna be a bit quicker but tbh after a month or so you'll be sitting there thinking "now why the **** did i waste my money on doing such a pointless thing as that"

Just save your money and put it towards something better and faster in the future...or maybe some advanced driving lessons so you can make the best of what you've got ;)
