i found a hgt 1.8 punto engine. will this drop straight in?

wats the bhp on one of these cos my sister abarth rips

bear in mine its 0-60 is still 9 seconds in a punto, and your brava is probably a bit heavier Smee...

if ur gonna go to all the hastle of changing an engine whats the point of puting a 1.8 in it!

just get the 20vt lump you really want im sure rbizz will point you in the right direction if you ask nicely!!!!

i cant afford to get a conversion done like that its 4k but i can get the engine of a 1,8 hgt cheap but oh well back to the drawing board

Save for a 20VT or a 16VT mate. Pointless doing a 1.8, or even a 1.4GT.

Save up.. :)

You can buy my coupe 16vt for £2400 and the engine has just been completely rebuit with all new internals, I want a new Speed boat :)

i recently been looking at putting the 1.4t into a bravo
1. because it is easy
2. cheaper all round
3. i can get it insured.
the insurance compnay basically laughed when i suggested the 20vt as it is a group 19 anyway put it into a bravo an its classed up with supercars no one will come close to touching me insurance wise. putting a 1.4t in i can get much more bhp then standard 1.8 and insurance is virtually the same

i was speakign to a chap from hungary and he said he had a punto gt and his 1.6 bravo next to each other and it looked more different than the 20vt turbo


the easiest swap is a 2ltr 8v dedra turbo

can get a donor car abroad for like 1500 squids

didn't know that but wouldn't it cost even more to get the engine back over here.
the biggest problem (apart from never having enough money) is insurance being under 21 everything cost a fortune

Would it not be a bit of a bugger swapping a petrol for a JTD, like the wireing loom, and the emoblisr.

What would you do about that.

to swap a petrol for a desiel you will have to replace the petrol tank + pipes aswell as engine, ecu etc

you will be swapping most of the wiring loom etc anyway so thats not a problem with the diesel,

i'm not sure if you can clean tanks lines well enough? or are they different?

might be a bit expensive gettting dedra donor cback over here. . .


easiest way is to fly out, then road trip drivig it home

you coudl even be brave and get a dedra integrale and go for 4x4 conversion

Diesel has a different fuel system, it probably won't have the vapour can, will have a different fuel pump etc...

That will be a really straight forward swop imo

the 1.8 hgt punto lump in to the Bravo that is

all the sub frames are usualy interchangable between most fiats i.e. coupe & bravo

the coupe 20v and 16v subframes and engine mounts are interchangable with the bravos both 16v and 20v

also in mainland europe they did a 1.8 16v vvt fiat coupe, so following the above i would say the mk2 punto 1.8 16v subframe and mounts will swop over fro mthe coupe to the bravo

(or in your case from the punto to the bravo :) )

your only problem after that is
drive shafts connecting to the hub and wiring,

at a guess i would say you'll be able to use the punto drive shafts, hubs and bin the bravo ones

then there is the wiring which wont cause any probelms as you can get all the wiring diagrams from manuals

supposedly the 1.8 vvt is quite good on juice

Is the 1.8 punto/barch engine the same block as the bravo/a 1.8? Its just got the VVC head.

If thats the case you can reuse the gearbox, no need to worry about driveshafts and any of that faf.
