Hi

My sump had a disagreement with a sleeping policeman, so I'm looking for a replacement engine (I suspect some further damage was done) :(.

Would anyone be able to tell me which models are compatible? (currently has a JTD 110 (M6?) engine).

Would a 2002 Brava (1B2B9000) be suitable?

Many thanks in anticipation.

Did you find an answer to this? It'd be nice to think that all the 1.9 JTD engines are basically the same, and so you could fit any?

I was idly thinking last night that a fun but expensive sleeper could be made by putting the 16v m-jet 1.9 JTD from a 147 in to a Multipla - it has almost 100 lb-ft more torque, which would be great for towing. And then I though that if you could fit that engine you could probably fit the gearbox and torsen diffs from a 156 crosswagon, giving you a 4wd 140bhp / 225lb-ft Multipla. That'd be quite nice.

And then I thought that if the 1.9 fitted in the Alfa 156, then perhaps the 2.4 from the 156 would fit in the Multipla, which would give you almost 300lb-ft.

Anyone fancy giving it a go? I'd be happy to test drive any creations :)

Unfortunately no solution as yet :(

I suspect the differences may be due to sensor locations / mounting points for ancillaries etc. I imagine there may be some workarounds for these, but it would be nice to have a definitive answer.

The "upgrades" sound interesting for another time, but the upgrade I'm most interested in at the moment is getting the wheels turning again!!!

If you check out the ePer parts catalogue you will see that the only other sump that fits is from the Alfa Romeo W8 147 2000-> diesel rhd.

Peat - do you have a list of engine codes and applications?

After my post above, which was made out of idle curiosity, I am now wondering what the differences are between the engines.

The Multipla JTD is 115ps / 203 NM, whereas the Alfa 147 1.9JTD is 120ps / 280NM. The multijets have even more of a difference (120PS 206NM vs 125NM 330NM)

I'd love to know what the differences are - specifically how come the Alfa units are producing so much more lovely torque - and if it would be an easy job to swap one in to a Multipla.

MultiMan110 - sorry if I'm stealing your thread - hope you've managed to find some answers or get your car moving at least?

@MultiMan110 -I emailed a garage I found on t'internet who specialise in Fiats and Alfas to see what they reckoned re: fitting any old Fiat group 1.9, and they came back with:

I couldn't guarantee it but I am pretty sure that the Alfa engine would fit with no problem, and theoretically so would the 2.4. However, personally I would look at fitting the 1.9 Mjet engine rather than the 2.4. The 2.4 is a very heavy lump and you would feel this in the front of the multipla.
The Mjet can be tuned to give big horsepower without the extra weight. You would need the VVturbo and the Ecu to run it which would be a bit of a pain to splice into your car.
Hope this is of some help to you, it is not something we have tried ourselves but knowing Alfa/Fiat they would not change fundamental parts such as the engine block/mounting points due to cost saving, this enables them to use the same engine for years in different models.

No problem MultiPa, anything that promotes discussion!

Managed to get hold of a Multi engine slightly newer than my own, so just need to swap them over. Hopefully be rolling again in the next week :) .

Hi ya, very new to all this but have been reading your posts about a possible engine swap to alfa jtd. Did you manage to do it? If so was it straight forward in the end? Got a smokey 1.9jtd doblo and fancy something better.

an old thread i know but i was going to ask more or less the same question but i did a search and this came up , the problem i've got is the sump plug is still stuck fast on my 2004 plate 115 multipa i cant budge it for the life of me , i've changed the oil through the dipstick with a pela 6000 but i'm not keen on this because it took bloody ages to draw the oil out mainly because of the diameter of the tube needed to fit down the dipstick tube so i'd rather use the drain plug , so i'm looking at worst case senario , i took it to a local garage who said they can have a go but if it's stuck fast , which it is (even after a blow torch and stilson on it) theres a risk that the plug mounting may possibly crack , so i'd like to know what other sumps are compatible not only fiats but alfa's or other makes any help appreciated because sod's law say's that if it's going to happen then it will
