Stilo 1.6 16v - 182.B6.000 (2003 / 53 plate)

Hi all,views please.
Codes stored: p0300 :random multiple misfire detected
p0304 :igntion failure cyl.4

Replaced resistor type spark plugs.
Swapped coil cylinder 3 to 4 and 4 to 3.

Light out,no codes....... approx 800 mile later, may have been earlier, but the misses forgot to tell me the light came on.
Codes stored p0300 & p0304.

As the coils have been swapped over, that only leaves:
1-eng.mechanical.
2-fuel injector/wiring.

Any one have any views or come across this before? any thing to look for with injectors??

It also appears to have used 1ltr of oil in 1000 mile, this has been filled to the max line to check on a weekly basis and not to top up until exactly 1000 mile to check on consumption, unless urgently required.

Also in 800 mile, the coolant expansion bottle was empty, so again, topped up for monitoring purposes.

Again, :worship:she forgot to tell me this........ its great, she works along distance away :D, i get the freedom, peace and quiet  , then i get into trouble cause i didnt look after the car :confused:. Cant win can i.

My snapon solus pro (n) with latest software update (n) does not have accessability to coil and injector readings etc etc.:cry::cry:

Update folks............

As previous code reads said 0304 -misfire cyl.4, plugs fitted and coils swapped 3-4 and vice versa, i carried out a compression check........all 4 spot on... all good (y).

Now the water :bang: she will have to take more care of the car :worship:.

Combustion gases in coolant system :(, so her who must be obeyed :worship: now has to get a quote for head removal/replace and head pressure test and skim :D.

Think she will listern next time .......... :chin: :D:D:D:D:D:D

i have i p0300 p0301 and p0302 fault codes on my stilo 2001 1.6. Have changed the ignition coil and spark plugs but still misfire on cylinder 1

yer sorry i dont know how to start a new thread. i pluged the lap top into the car and the codes i got were p0300 p0301 and p0302 misfire on cylinder 1.
i changed all spark plugs and a new ignition coil but still no joy :-(

Ok well
P0300 is a random misfire
P0301 is cylinder 1 misfire
P0302 is cylinder 2 misfire

Point to note here is that a misfire is a misfire and not necessarily to do with electrics or ignition. A cylinder head leak for instance will cause a misfire on two adjacent cylinders and will have nothing to do with ignition circuits. Car senses the jolt and knows which cylinder should have been producing power then but didn't and fires up the fault code if it does it often enough. Those same fault codes will occur if you are removing the coil leads whilst the engine is running to detect which coil is causing problems

So what symptoms are you getting?

It is struggling to start, stuttering and using a lot of fuel. not loosing any coolant and yesterday only p0300 and p0301 was showing on ecu.
the oil filler pipe has light brown sludge in it but on the dip stick the oil is ok.
