Hi guys, I’m a newbie looking 4 help.
Couple months ago, I've bought '02 Stilo 1.6 16v Dynamic, and everything was ok until it started to behave, hmmm oddly - once in a while (totally unpredictable) it refuses to start, showing 'oil pressure' and/or 'loose connection' messages and couple of times there was message concerning ASR (can't remember the text). The only thing I can do in those moments is to leave the car and try again in, let's say, couple of hours, when, so far, problems 'disappear' and car ignite normally
As I said, it is completely unpredictable behaviour, the only pattern I noticed so far is that b4 those problems I usually had the warning 'Alternatr fail' (but it started normally) - when I see that message I know that next ignition (start) will most likely be disaster. :bang:
Any idea/help?
Thanx in advance

Altenator outputting ok? Battery ok?

Lots of Stilo startup faults are due to poor battery voltages, but if the altenator is not charging it correctly (faulty unit or bad drive belt), that could be the cause too.

Never thought that alternator/battery could cause problems so I didn't check it so far.
But why is it behaving pretty unpredictable then? I can drive it for a week with no problem at all, and suddenly message warning and no ignition?
Is there any connection (hardware(sensor, wiring, etc) and/or software) between the faults (alternatr fail -> oil pressure/loose connection) and their order?

Oh, sorry - english lang. is not my native, so, obviously, I didn't use the right words to describe the problem.
When I said 'ignition' I meant the ignition of the motor - correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that when the system 'thinks' that something is wrong with oli pressure - it wouldn't allow the motor to ignite.
Am I wrong, and do u manage to understand me now (sorry again)?

No problems :)

Erm, that I don't know; I've never had that fault come on at startup. All I've had are ABS, ASR, EBD faults; these were caused by a bad battery.

Sounds however like a problem with the junction box ontop of the battery; that deals with ALL the units that are showing faults.

Remove the battery compartment box, take the grey fusebox unit off, then examine the connectors; ensure they are secure and dry. Refit them carefully.

See this thread also.

Let us know if that helps.
