hi everyone …I recently had some welding done, under battery box and my fridge is not working on 12v,so I’m not sure which or what fuses or relays belong to fridge ,there are a pair of green fuses on their own plus 4/5 in a small block and a pair of relays, and 1 biggish fuse( I assume) with thick red wires going in and out,…spare all these part of the 12v fridge system bloody annoying I’ve changed all the easy fuses but still nothing actually on fridge ..the fridge does work on mains and gas,…so can some one help me before I put a bloody match to it desperate as we goin away in 2 weeks time thanks everybody

Thanks for the invite, but we don’t go far just local within 40 miles or so,…thank you anyway

The 12v feed for fridges is often on a extra relay in the engine bay or in the cab

Are then any odd relays stuck anywhere in the engine bay that don't look factory or extra wires attached the the battery that could be a 12v feed for the power supply side of the relay feeding the fridge?

This is obviously a motorhome related question, but please what model of Ducato base vehicle. e.g. x230, x244, or x250? See VIN which will have the format ZFA230xxxxxxx, or ZFA244xxxxxxx, or ZFA250xxxxxxxx.

Also what make of 12V habitation electrics e.g. Schaudt Electoblok, CBE DS300, Sargent ?????, etc.

As @chris3234 has stated there will be extra relays fitted but these could be integral with the habitation 12V fuse panel, NOT the control panel.

In either case there will be a split charge relay which allows the alternator to charge the habitation batteries when the engine is running, and a fridge relay. The fridge relay will in most cases be operated from the alternator field D+ connection which only becomes live when the engine is running. As D+ is only a low power supply, the split charge relay may be powered via the fridge relay.

Does the habitation battery voltage rise when the engine is started? If not the either the D+ connection is faulty, or a fuse may have blown.

If you are not going to sunnier climes the fridge should be OK without 12V. We have occasionly omitted to select ours to 12V, but without a meltdown. @GrumpyGran thought hers was OK, but then found that it was not working on 12V, as stated here. While that problem was with a non retracting step, it may still be relevant.

Hi Chris thanks for replying to me ,under bonnet tucked behind battery there is a green block of 2 fuses separate to a block of 4/5 fuses these look to be factory fitted ,also there’s 3 thickish brown leads coming off positive terminal they appear to go to 2 relays also behind battery on firewall and 1 big fuse with thickish (not as thick as main starter cable) leads in and out of it the motorhome is a swift royale 590 on a Fiat ducato 230 2.5tdi 1997

Those additional relays sound worth checking if you have. A multi meter meter it would be worth checking the switch side of the Relay for 12v feed with the engine running
Also check if you can see where the + side of the switch feed come from if possible if it's for charge relay/fridge feed it often is connected to the d+ feed of the alternator and it will probably be a fairly small wire

Okay Chris thanks for you help…it’s peein down here in south wales so I will check out what you’ve said when the rain stops hopefully sooner than later..thanks Roger👍

I had a Royale 590 years ago. I can't remember whether it was so on that vintage of Swift (ISTR it was) , but it was common for Swift to place the Split-Charge relay and fridge fuses under the large black cover top-rear of the engine compartment.

Easy enough to remove with a couple of nuts.

See this thread here (and the black cover in the photo). If you have that cover on the 2.5tdi, I'd look under there.

Thanks Hugh …no black cover on mine unless removed years ago before I had it,I’ve had her about ten years now, just wish I had a manual or a diagram it would make things a bit easier I’m no sparky at all…more of a potCher ,if it’s on there it has to be working 😂

I don’t suppose any one got any photos or diagram of the fuses and relays under bonnet of the12v fridge wiring…?
