General EGR valve blanked off ...

Hi all, im having a big problem with removing my egr again. Looks like the bloody screws with the Allen key thing inside of it has rounded.

So know I need new bolts, I will have to grind them off and drill them out.

So any suggestion on where can I get these from and how many do I really need???

According to the ePER item 8 in the diagram is 43p each and item 15 is 68p each direct from Fiat.

yes it is item 15 in the pic.

well its my fault because before i had the correct size tool to do the job i bloody rounded it, and then when i had the correct one it worked for abit but not there is no chance. bloody thing.

honestly the screws are so tight on my egr valve i can only get two of them off. it is totally impossibel to get the two holding the downpipe under the egr off. and those are the ones that i want to pull off to put the blanking plate on. bloody pain it is.

so will i be able to get them from the main dealer or online???

Call your local Fiat dealer, give them the part number, ask them to double check its the correct part, then place your order.

If you happen to be near Wolverhampton let me know, I'll fit the blanking plate for you.

Isn't there a collar on the section of pipe under the egr which connects the 2 sections of pipe? It would allow you to remove the egr to and give better access to remove the screws? Try angle grinding some flat edges into the head and use a spanner to get them out.

Forgot to say that I used 2 blanking plates to isolate my EGR this week and found the screws near the manifold near impossible to get out. What I ended up doing was cutting a section off of the correct sized allen key and use it with the corresponding bit of my socket set so I could get some force behind it in the confined space.

Took some doing but worked a treat.

I am milles away from you mate, I'm in south west Wales. I will have to do something as the manifold screws are totally impossible to get off. Not a hope in hell. Plus there is no room what so ever. Don't know how you do it, plus I'm gonna need another blanking plate, hint hint lol

cheers mate. it is so impossible to get them bolts off buy the manifold to put the blanking plate there. really really hard. i have got the correct tools for the job. but just no room to move. ( you could swing a cat in there ) lol.

anything i am doing wrong???

Spray plenty of releasing oil on the bolts and leave it for a while, that's what worked for me. As a last resort I was going to get the manifold nice and hot by revving the car and see if that helped.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I just wanted to assure everyone there was nothing else wrong with my car. The engine ecu on 1.9 8V monitors egr operation by monitoring certain parameters, such as airflow and inlet manifold pressure. The fault, and limp home only occurred after overrun, typically occurring when I decelerated in 5th gear for 10 seconds or so. I also have a technical background.

Mark is correct in what he says especially under the conditions he described. Incorrect air flow readings, the AFM has a 10% +/- tolerance, out with this band will produce an error however it will clear again after a ignition cycle and put engine light out.
