It is illegal to blank or disable the EGR (or any emissions equipment) on a road car.
Since last month the MOT tests includes specifically looking for such modifications. Don't do it.

I dont push it on customers but all my own cars are remapped with egr off. Pass mot fine egr still fitted but if you take any 100k intakes apart the engine is choked by egr, which will always play up. This ultimate makes emissions worse than a clean non egr car. There is no way I will have that unreliable engine damaging emissions damaging mess operating to foul up my engine.

What do you base the "makes the emissions worse than a clean non egr car" assertion on?
EGR is about NOx emissions which has nothing to do with intatke cleanliness.

This is simply rubbish. Sure, there will be soot on there, perhaps blocking it, so wow, I know, that's really dumb of the designer, I will put a metal plate in to block it and that's much better.........! Not to worry that there might be another issue. I have never had an issue with any emissions control equipment as I use the engine properly and don't go looking for trouble. Its there for a reason.

I own and run a garage specialising in 2nd level diagnostics to the trade and a comprehensive set of solutions for customers. I'm not a mot and brakes place. By far the biggest issues we see with cars these days are emissions control equipment related. The quality of the engines have drastically reduced due to the emphasis being meeting emissions, not making them run well.

I don't know how many cars you have, 20? I respect the fact that you are a good driver/owner and yours run well. Great. Please respect that I deal with thousands of cars and emissions issues particularly EGR and DPF as well as SCR SWIRL and Lambda control are a huge problem and in general not good for the health of the engine, fuel economy or performance. A casing point would be the dozen or so customers who have come to me recently asking to have the VW software update removed, the one that made their engine legislation compliant for emissions and now it runs rough, power is down and mpg is reduced. There is a damn good reason why VW fiddled the software to NOT comply on the street in the first place, because it runs better.

The purpose of EGR is to make type approval for the EU and USA and some other countries by major car manufacturers to avoid IVA on their products. You are correct it relates to reducing NOx. However it has everything to do with intake system cleanliness. Ever licked the inside of an exhaust? It takes those gasses and pushes them back up the intake. But that isn't the bad bit. The breather gases from the crankcase and oil by pass from the turbo oil seal on the intake side hit and mix with the exhaust soot, mixing to make the most sticky and disgusting paste known to man. That blocks everything up, including the valve that controls the flow and swirl flaps, anti shudder valve (throttle body on petrols) and I can go on, but it's late.

A case study, last week I had a passat tdi in. MOT. Failed, hugely, on soot. No boost leaks, no fault codes. EGR was disabled and a cleaner run through, went back to MOT and passed well below the statutory limit running nice and clean. That's not an isolated case, I fix or disable (yes I do fix and re-enable too depends what the owner asks for and the fiscal practicality of the options) these emissions systems every day. Apart from Sunday, I try and have that off :)

Sounds like you are a garage owner / mechanic and possibly a MOT test station / examiner. In which case you should no better. The VW you reference just needed a clean which you did anyway. Instead you charged the customer more to make their car illegal. It is n offence for you to do this. The head of Audi just got arrested for the same thing (all be it on a bigger scale). Do you put "EGR disabled" on the invoice? Maybe you do, being happy to admit to an illegal act on a public forum.
The purpose of EGR is to reduce NOx which (unlike CO2) has a significant immediate and local impact on peoples health.
