Technical egr blanking off

Techno100. That looks a lot better. You were heading for a throttle valve problem there. Its a bit of a faf to get to. I took the Grill, middle bumper and slam panel off to get at mine. Its easier then.

I unblocked my EGR vacuum pipe today and took the van for a run to check the starting issues had gone and I had no problems with starting, hot or cold but.....The engine ran smother on tickover with the egr working but it felt like it was running out of breath between 2 and 3000 revs, felt a bit hesitant, under 2 it seemed ok.

There seems to be a case for stopping the EGR but it definitely knows it's been messed with.

Looking at that blanking kit I am wondering why the plate is needed as the electrovalve is isolated by the cables/electricery box. If it works it looks a good solution.

We could do with someone who has used it to let us know. I may ask the Funsters if anyone has it.

shotgun. are you going to try it????

Mike

I may give it a try but I only use it when I go away the next time will be the week before easter than I a off to Scotland

shotgun.

This blanking kit has a controller fitted to the maf and electrovalve

Maybe this is why yours is hunting. Perhaps the ECU is changing the air/fuel ratio when it opens the EGR. just a guess I don't really know.

Bit pricey

Mike

Nice I had thought of doing this, it would have taken a good few hours to work out and build and test before having it manufactured in that respect I think its cheap.

No it seems that blocking the pipe without the electrical fix is non productive.
Yes of course I will report back but I'm not doing any driving until end of february.

Yes just finished it this morning. Cleared fault log on ECU with Torq Pro and everything is fine. No more ****e going through the intake manifold!

how was it to fit mine looks a right bitch to get at to fit the blanking plate
have you drove it yet if so is it better

Yes I had to dismantle a fair bit.
I had it running an hour but could not take it out. It certainly revs better but that is expected having cleaned the throttle.

Mine is left hand drive so I had to strip out the air intake which sits right over it.
The 2 6mm socket head screws into the exhaust manifold are a tw@t I had to drill one out and re tap it.
Best to remove the band m4 allen key and remove the 4 13mm bolts holding the cooling unit to the back of the engine. Disconnect the hoses and bung them. You'll have access to the barstewards then.
I separated the EGR but it would have been easier to leave it in one piece.

It came to me with a new EGR fitted so it seemed worth disabling. when I removed the throttle valve to change the glowplugs I noticed that the inlet manifold was fairly clear.

Mike

How did the glowplug swap go, did they come out ok?

No, I had the glowplug light flashing after starting for a few months and with the starting issues I thought I would take a look at it.

A scan showed a glowplug error and po335 error.

I noticed the 2 of the glowplug push on caps were corroded in side so bought a harness with the same caps and spliced them in. the same 2 glowplugs top pins were also corroded. cleaned these. this failed to fix it so I bought 4 new beru glow plugs.

The plugs are only 8mm so long and thin. They only take about 20nm to snap. I covered them with plusgas the day before and got the engine warm but 2 snapped.

I thought about using the kits available to remove them but bottled out as failure meant the head having to come off :eek::eek:

I found a guy in cardiff who has been trying to retire for years but the local garages and main dealers wont let him. he is old school and drilled them out free hand, It was a priviledge to watch him work. This fixed my glowplug issues.

You have done nice job with the EGR kit. Well done.

Mike

My van has the EGR vacuum line blocked and the throttle valve connector removed for nearly one year now. This week I went to the local equivalent of "MOT" and noticed the ECU warning light. The guy at the station saw it too and hooked on the exhaust gas analyzer (they usually don't do that), but the test results were good.
Back home I found a P0235 fault "turbo pressure" and deleted it.
