Mrs Ffoxy and I are having a few days away in Edinburgh, travelling up by Grande Punto Sporting on Sat 28th and staying in a 5* hotel somewhere in the city. Any Edinburgh members give me a few pointers at some good places to go, day and night, to get the Edinburgh experience?

Also, anywhere we can get some genuine Scots porridge and sample some real haggis?

No it not a wind up! :)

Any good hotel in Edinburgh will be able to provide you with both porrage (note spelling) and haggis, unless you fancy a take-away - in which case be sure to ask for a "Haggis supper" as opposed to "Haggis and chips" if you want to blend in ;)

Been a long ol' time since I've been to the 'burgh though so other than the obvious places like the castle I can't really make any good suggestions.

 porrage it is Mr Eklipze  Thanks for the tip on "blending in" but I think even in cosmopolitan Edinburgh my accent will stand out lol!

Must remember Haggis Supper.... :p I'll be sampling a few single malts as well, would love a trip up to Loch Ness but probably wont find time.

Well, if you do happen to be heading in a more northerly direction gimme a shout (y)

There a lot of very nice distilleries around these parts and I'll be more than happy to chauffeur your drunken ass since I can no longer stomach whisky, lol

Shame your not going up a few days earlier. St Andrews Italian car day is the 24th. :(

Cockburn Street for alternative shopping FTW.

Yea I spotted that mate but Mrs Ffoxy wouldnt be impressed lol!

what hotels have you looked at?
the radisson on the royal mile (the old town where the castle/tourist mecca http://www.edinburgh-royalmile.com/) is decent with plenty of parking.(custards baby momma works in the rest' so i can get you looked after in there ;)
the balmoral is within spitting distace of the royal mile and is a glorious old building
the caladonian is at the end of princess street and again is a nice old building.it and the balmoral are old railway hotels
then maybe you want something like the witchery? http://www.thewitchery.com/accom.html

Mrs Ffoxy booked it custard, it The Kingsburgh. Kind of a surprize but she needed to know if I could get time off... hope its OK as she will be hugely disappointed if not. Has some excellent feedback fron Hotel reviewers though.

Thanks for the thought though, appreciated :)

where it is you can walk into town easily but an all day ticket for the buses only costs £3 so it gives you the options
feel free to drop me a PM if your looking for info on places

Thanks Custard you are a Gent! (y) I want to get around when we are there, its quite a trip not to take full advantage, Mrs Ffoxy loves buildings, architecture (well as far as architecture goes on Re-location re-location lol!)

Me, I just wana see the sights, get about and chill for a bit and leave my car keys in my pocket! I'll get back to you on that kind offer Custard (y)

If the boss likes buildings, although to me 'building' is a verb, therefore, if she likes 'builts', you can go round the new Scottish Parliament, which is next door to the Palace of Hollyrood House, at the bottom of the High Street.(Only tourists call it the Royal Mile)

Cheers
