Many apologies my mail was not meant as a complaint - this is my first foray into this area of engine tuning and genuinely didn't know if this amount was expensive or not (hence my previous mail). I am still interested so don't think you have lost a customer or that I have been moaning about your service or anything like that.

So thanks - I have just returned to Earth !!

Well, at last my 2.2JTD has been transformed!

I took it down today to see Nige at Angel Tuning, the original map already been scanned a week or two ago.

First things first - trying out the car as standard.

According to Fiat, the standard car is as follows - 128bhp, 0-62 12.6 seconds. Nige took full 'control' [in a loose sense, no, only kidding], and please note, all times were done whilst raining on WET ROADS. He managed 0-60 in just under 13 seconds [12.99], so our standard had been set. Also did a few quarter mile tests, and came out with 19.89 secs, speed 67.9mph.

First map now installed :). Just pulling out of the close, the difference was immense - same tests done as before, 0-60 down to 10.84, quarter mile 19.01 secs at 72.8mph.

Now the fun one - the 'mad Italian' map :D. 0-60 now sub 10 seconds, at 9.91, quarter mile 18.09 secs at 76.9mph.

Phenomenal - my turn for a 15 mile trip didn't come quick enough. Involved most types of roads, including a short sprint up the M40 - 3rd lane at 110mph and still pulling, Nige did say slow down - lol. Traffic was semi-heavy, so point taken! As we went down some country lanes, a few overtaking points came up - torque was immense, the car now driven unlike a diesel but as a petrol - the car just wants to keep pulling.....

Overall, totally impressed with the quality and service given to me. If it hadn't been for quite appalling conditions, times would have come down, probably by a second.

The car is probably now about 165 bhp, but this isn't everything. I intend to take it onto a proper rolling road [or whatever it is called, Nige can enlighten us] for proper data.

The whole drivebility of what was a very driveable car has increased. I definitely enjoyed the drive home!!! Highly recommended - will also keep you informed, like John K, about any further updates

Cool.... :D:D:D:D

When you plan your proper 'rolling road' test, let me know, as I'd be interested in getting some data from mine in controlled conditions... [8D]

My wife, who normally drives quite sedately, has now also 'felt the power' first hand - she's pulling into gaps in the traffic that neither her or I would have considered aiming for pre-remap, and she's now gone back to what used to be her favourite driving 'game' (when I had a 2.2i petrol Espace) of pulling up alongside a 'jack the lad' in a little Peugeot 206 or suped up Nova (you know the type - typical small boy-racer car), letting them sit at the lights revving and rolling backwards and forwards, and then as the lights change flooring the accelerator and leaving them sitting there with stupid looks on their faces. ;)

Hi,

My wife has also experienced it, having begged her to take it for a spin as soon as I got back from Niges. Even though she only uses it during the day for school runs, she can now feel the difference!

I also like the trick of pulling away from the lights against some 'boy'! The trouble is, I never get a chance to see their face anymore, coz I am long gone.

Apparently, there are proper testing facilities near Daventry. If we can get enough of us together, say 5, on a Saturday morning, we can do a deal with them. It would be possible to get readings from the normal map and super mad! This is not a rolling road, but a full unit that apparentely bolts on direct to your wheels; will give you everything you need to know.

I am up for it, and no doubt John is - any more???

Stu - still smiling :D

Feedback from John K and Stuart please

Guys I have Nige from Angel Tuning dropping in on me on Tuesday evening to read my maps and give me a demo of the maps he has installed on John K's 2.0 JTD. Question is how are you getting on with the map on your vehicles, I am obviously a bit apprehensive about this mainly in terms of how it will affect the warranty and how it will affect my insurance (I will have a word with them over the next few days). I have also read on the Multipla forums of a problem with the clutch slipping at the higher revs with the Mad Map - any indication of this happening on your two vehicles. I was probably thinking of the getting John K's first map as I am not really a "speed freak" (apologises to any outthere), but the extra oophm that 30 HP delivers would be usefull in the old van.

Stubie

Hi Stubie,

Glad to hear you are going for the remap :D. I only use the car in evenings and weekends, but it makes me smile everytime I drive it.

Just last week, on the A43 near us, had to overtake. Normally, need a lot of space; but now, not so much an issue - pulled out, floored it, and past within seconds - no lull at all, in fact, had to ease off - doing 90 in no time!?!? I have not heard the clutch slip yet either; I am not that mad, but also tend to know the cars limits - if it starts vibrating, ease off!

Basically. car can be driven as normal. I am finding I am getting better overall consumption as well. BUT it is nice knowing all that extra power reserve is in the old van!

Speak to Nige about warranty and insurance ;). It is your choice!

Stu

Thanks for the feedback Stuart. I have just been out in the Ulysee with 3 adults and 4 kids and there was times when I wished for a bit more power, pulling out of junctions and to get me into the flow of the traffic etc. It's would be nice to know that you have a reserve you can call upon when it's needed.

Stubie

I second Stu's comments. No sign of clutch slip (and I've now had the fun of driving with 7 adults in the car). I've not been watching the economy too closely (company car, company fuel etc), but the range I get out of a tankfull doesn't seem to have changed....

John

What work you had done, John, routine stuff or not?

One thing I noted recently was paint on the sliding doors. If you look at the bottom runners, on both sides, some of the black paint has come away and is now bare metal. I will probably start another thread soon, just in case this is missed. Not too concerned, but will mention it to dealer next time I am local.

Stubie, let us know how you get on - please don't dismiss that 'mad map', even if you try it out, but then go back to Map 1.

Stu

John, just noted you had 7 adults in the car, and you have been on recent trip to Amsterdam??? You are not abusing the expense account, surely??? [}:)] Who's smiling now!!!!

LOL - The 'Amsterdam' trip was actually to a place called Hoofddorp about 2 miles the wrond side of Schiphol airport, but it's easier to say Amsterdam!!!

The 7 people were me and 6 work colleagues last Tuesday.....

The work on the car was to do with a faulty tyre pressure sensor (reporting a puncture when it wasn't). It's been sorted now, but the nature of the work meant there was substantial usage of the Diag2000 system which showed nothing untoward! I also had some trouble with 2 of the diesel injectors that resulted in some work on the engine...

John

All good stuff. Think there is only one other place in the country that has the correct hardware i.e. not dealers.

Hmm, what diesel do you use? Yes, yes, I know it is free for you [V]. I still only use Shell everytime, and had no problems. But then again, car hasn't been used that much in reality.

Stu

It depends on where I am when I need to fill up - usually it's BP (ultimate if I can get it), but it could be from almost anyone...

The recent fill-ups that could have had an impact on the problem (apart from BT) are Esso and Texaco.......

John

Interesting - you been checking out other threads on here about all this - biggish argument about optimax and such like!

I still think Shell diesel, or BP, are the only choices.

Stu

Hi John,

I thought the filter and water seperator were designed to pick up particles much smaller than the size which would block the injector.

I have a sailing boat with a diesel engine and there are two diesel filters, the first is a primary with a water seperator and the second is a very fine one. Even using marine "red" diesel I have never had any blockages and it is not the cleanest fuel in the world. At 29.5p a litre (£1.34 gallon), I wish it would go in a car.

I have been to Hoofddorp, there are quite a few businesses there now. If you need a copy of the Dutch Nav CD, let me know as I have one.

Andy

Well I don't pretend to be a mechanic or engine expert (that's why I work in computing)..... I'm just reporting what the dealer told me - personally I don't think they know what did cause the problem. However given the difference in the behaviour of the car since I've had it back, I suspect there was a latent problem somewhere that has now been resolved.....

I always fly to Hoofddorp and then get the train to the office (which is the European HQ of the company I work for), so no need for the Dutch CD, but thanks for offering!

Poggy, assuming marine red diesel is the same as agricultural red diesel then it is exactly the same as "white" road diesel except for an added dye so that HM Custom and Excise can check if your avoiding the duty. In more rural areas a lot of cars are run only on red, the gamble being that you save enough to offset the fine

Over here (N Ireland) there is a lucrative trade in literally laundering the red diesel to turn it white, not so good for your engine due to the acids used in the process. I've heard stories where dealers have refused warranty work on fuel systems after analysing the diesel found in the offending vehicle. I believe that some of this fuel has been making it's way across the Irish Sea[:(!].
