hi, 2001 shummacher edition 1.2 sporting, cars done 56k fsh, I have a flashing ecu light that fiat tell me is a generic ignition problem, fiat now have tried 3 times to fix to no avail. Tried changing plugs, leads, and had ecu checked out with fiat, anybody had same problem or know whats happening?

Hi

Do you have any bad symptoms other then the light flashing?

Will it rev over 3000 rpm ok?

Does it missfire if you snap the throttle open at 2000 rpm in 5th gear?

Does it tick over OK?

Does it start ok?

Please try for 5 answers.

thanks for help, will try tell you more about problem, car has 1.2 petrol engine, 2001 model, the car runs fine, i use it daily, has slight irratic tick over but doesnt stall, car will hit 90+ on motorway and gets there smooth enough. There doesnt seam to be any problems with the car other than the light on dash, dont know what codes it displays but told it is "generic ignition failure", had coils replaced, plugs, leads, compression test, all okay im told?. hope this helps more,

also engine has not been changed, but has had new timing belt and crank oil seals, the light only started after garage done this work and power washed the engine, had the fault for about 6 weeks now. cheers

If the phonic wheel learn isn't performed after a cambelt change it will cause this (the synchronisation of the cam and crank sensors is used to detect misfires, and the phonic wheel learn must be reset after a belt change no matter how perfectly aligned it appears to be). (y)

you may have something there, car is into fiat again to get sorted out, so i,ll phone garage and ask them to check phonic wheel, good shout mate,, ecu has been cleared out 4-5 times now and timing marks checked, but unlikely garage done the phonic wheel thing. thanks
