Ecu or earthing problem mk 2b 8v punto 04 plate
My punto cuts out at 4000revs and the engine management comes on,the engine still runs as the rev go to zero ,management light goes out, revs pickup without spluttering or anything, weird as it only happens when engine is hot-revs up to the limiter when cold without missing a beat, anyone out there with any ideas, would bad earthing light up the engine management light or does that indicate ecu failure. Also indicators are fine when engine is cold yet as soon as engine heats up interior bulb dashboard warning comes on when indicating and the indicator lights start flashing at warp speed. CheersDavren for posting advice

the clue being when the engine is hot, and the problem pointing to a faulty sensor, you probably need a new O2/lambda sensor, which doesn't work or do anything till the engine is up to temp hence why the problems occur only when warm

as for indicators fast flashing means you have a bulb out, the faster the flash the more bulbs are out, next time it happens get out of the car and see which bulbs are affected

The engine almost stalling and coming to life to me sounds like a crank sensor issue
which does bring on the EML
So a code read would help you there

When the lights flash faster then they should (indicators) it usually means a bulb out

If it was a bad earth it'd flash slower - or activate other lights as a result

ziggy

Cheers for advice however all indicator bulbs are okay as are all the other bulbs in the car,the indicators work fine whilst cold and then flash rapidly when car is hot -if lambda sensor is faulty would engine ecu light come on at4000 revs when engine has warmed up hope this makes sense and thanks again

Ok will take car to friendly mechanic and submit read outs to this thread
Any other ideas re indicators as this all happened at the same time

Replaced crankcase sensor but problem still exists .cant post code reading as mech cannot test until next week so have called around auto electricians and they think it may be the body ecu(the one that's at the back of the interior fuse box) .
Is there a relay for the indicators that I could check before I get the code reading results cheers
