Hi All.

Im thinking of getting an Ecotek valve.
Apparently they increase performance and reduce fuel consumption.

If so..wahey as I drive a 1.4SX 12V fuel monster....

I am wondering if they are actually any good.
And how easy are they to fit....Ive seen them for around £50 on a website...

I am a total amateur when it comes to mechanics...I can repalce an oil filter and thats about it.

Can I fit this valve myself with a help from a friend or is it a garage job?

Cheers

Just fitted one to my 1.8 yesterday. Bit unnerving at first because the noise it makes on overrun (like air escaping from a balloon when you're pinching the ends apart), but that died away after a few miles (I have the silencer too). Can't comment yet on the fuel consumption, but surprisingly I can feel the difference when driving. The pickup in the 2-3000 rpm range in much better and generally the car is smoother. It is designed as an economy device so it should have no effect on your insurance - bonus.

Once I've finished blatting the car around Billericay I will return to my normal driving and update everyone about mpg after a few tankfuls.

i too have a bravo 1.4 which loves to drink petrol. I fitted an ecotek a few months back. There are some issues about tuning the device even though it's supposed to be easy as at first when i installed it the car was burning more fuel. Anyway the net result is that from my experience the mgp does not increase however there is a slight increase in throttle response. It's probably worth your while to give it a go as there is an ecotek forum and loads of people are please with it.

CAN I FIT ONE TO A 1.2?

I have a 1.2 sx can i fit one to this - and what does it actualy do?

Cheers - Kev

Re: CAN I FIT ONE TO A 1.2?

Yes you can fit it to your 1.2. The idea is that it creates a swirl effect in the air so that the fuel and the air are mixed better, therefore there is more bang per buck. Actually not too sure where the extra mpg comes from unless the ECU runs the engine a bit leaner. I guess that because you are getting more energy per rev that you don't need as many revs as before, hence saving fuel.

You will always need the same number of revs, thats a fixed constant in the gearbox.

The idea of the ecotek is to add extra air after the flow meter to fool the ECU into running a leaner mixture.

The prob is the ECU notices this cos the lambda reading will change and then richens the mix. :)

They work on carbed engines, some SUs actually had a very similar thing to give good part throttle MPG.

I tried one, my MPG went up and then straight back down to where it was. Sent it back.

do you think it would improve the mpg of a hgt?
