General Earths, Disconnecting Battery & Radio Code

Hi All,

I'm getting the odd electrical issue so going to clean up earths as those visible look a little crusty. Obviously I will need to disconnect the battery to do this and I do not have a note of my radio code.

I have just spoken to Arnold Clark Fiat in Aberdeen who confirmed that if the battery was removed, the radio code would need to be re-entered. Gave them my reg and they confirmed that my car is too old for CANBUS wiring. Apparently it costs £30 +VAT as it is the security code for imobiliser, too. They did not confirm whether or not immobiliser could be adversely affected.

Honestly, what effects will I see from simply disconnecting the battery? 06 Grande Punto, 1.4 Active Sport 8V.

EDIT - I don't mind paying £30 but I'd rather not if possible, would sooner put it towards a DAB aftermarket job and a set of controls. More concerned about having immobiliser issues!

You've been sprung a load of BS, most Fiats have had CANBUS systems from 2000>.

If its the OEM setup that the car rolled out of the factory with you won't need the radio code, if you do it can normally be obtained from here in the relevant thread for donated members

All OEM & stock to my knowledge, I had my suspicions that the information I was given my not have been 100% correct. I'll pull the earths to bits at the weekend, clean up and grease.

Just for completeness, I had the battery disconnected for about 45 mins whilst doing the earths and radio all fine
