Dvd Player

DVD has arrived and i have got my car back.
Trying to install the dvd player and im struggling with the last like inch or so pushing it in.

Looks like theres some kind of guide on the back of the stereo housing.

Couple of questions.

  1. Can i snap that bit of plastic off ?
  2. Were can i get my hand up to gide the wires either side of the stereo as i done want these gettting trapped ?
Thanks in advance

Also just noticed putting a dvd in comes up saying off for safety reasons anyway around this ?
Cant have the dvd player on without my ignition being on and the message comes up even with the engine not started.

Not sure about the bit of plastic, can you post a pic? Also not sure about guiding wires down as I've never been in at a Mk2. Regarding the DVD playing, normally DVD playing HU's have a signal wire which is *meant* to be wired to the handbrake, so that DVD's can only be played while stationary. You can (from experience) wire this to your ignition switched live and it'll allow you to play DVD's all the time. From the back of my HU this is a pink wire but check your manual.

Thank you for your reply.

The little bit of plastic it looks like a guide for the OEM radio to go into. ill try get a pic tomorrow as its too dark to see now :(
There is a pink wire on the back of this, would i need to wire this into the "live" wire and this should fix my problem ?

Regards the pink wire, check your DVD player's manual to make sure but if that is the handbrake switch then yes. I'm sure I've read threads in the past about this bit of plastic being snapped/cut off and if it's preventing the new HU from going fully home then it seems to be the way to go.

Ok ill have a look tomorrow ive left the manual in the car :(.
yer i think that the little plastic is in the way and the only thing to do is to snap it.
Ill update tomorrow when ive had a little play... with the dvd player that is haha

sounds like the wire you are after

it is possibly to get it all the way in if you tuck the wires right in to the corner, might be more difficult with a dvd unit though.

the right hand corner of the slot goes down in to the drivers footwell

if you secure something heavy to some string and lower it down the hole in the corner you can with a lot of attempts, swearing, rage quitting and tea get it in to the footwell

then tie the end of the string to your wires and use it to pull them in to the corners while you are sliding it in

i was thinking of trying something like this.
Ill see how well it goes in after i have taken this little bit of plastic off.
Just ordered the plastic surrounding too so it wont look as tacky :D

Bit of an update.

I have managed to get a perminant feed to the dvd player so i can now switch it on without the ignition being on, and also removed that bit of plastic and i can now push the dvd player all the way back.

Only problem i have now is the not being able to play dvds.
I have connected the pink (parking) wire onto the perminant feed like it was suggested but this hasnt worked.
Anyone any ideas ?
