does anyone know if you can obtain a duplicate key
my fiat ulysee only came with one key that does the central locking and ignition if this gets lost or broken i have no other ,im presume this has a code in it so would i have to do to a fiat dealer (costly ) or is there somewhere else any help appreciated

Unless the keys changed from '96 to '99, there is no immobiliser chip in the key fob.
If you just want a spare key (without remote central locking) then a key-cutter should be able to make a copy.
I had one made from a broken key ('96 1.9 TD EL). However, they had to do part of it by eye so it is not a perfect match - it works better in some locks than others, and only one way round in the ignition!
It's worth trying to get a key cut for a few quid, before resorting to a dealer - especially if it's just a spare.

I got mine cut ok. It was the key /fob(one button) for central locking and ignition. That was a good while back when the fob packed up, but managed to get two fobs and a sensor/receiver from ebay and now remote locking again:D

it was Timpsons which cut my key I don't know how wide spread they are I know there in Inverness and East kilbride where I got mine done.

The blank key is CN22 (Above) CP and on the other side it says KL Italy and it was copied from the original floppy fob key

Mine is a 98 and I have two keys, one with 2 buttons which folds and the other has none.
Sometimes the plain key will not start the car and I have to use the 2 button key, after starting the car with the 2 button key I can then start the car with the plain key! It's as if the key losses the code! yet it has no battery.

we had a spare key cut from the original at a regular key cutters but there must be a chip of some sort in it as it wont start the car but it will open the doors , we have managed to source a company in bolton who do duplicate keys for our car so we have to give them a ring tomorrow to see what the damage is going to be ,
our key doesnt have a button on it at all , you dont have to press anything for the central ,locking , just put key in drivers door this then unlocks all doors and starts ignitionit is on a black fob with a silver strip to the side , the key has to be inserted so the silver bar faces the back of the car or it wont open the doors the same applies to the ignition.

The 2 button key unlocks the door remotely (when it works) but both keys work the door central locking from the lock. I only found out about the normal key not starting the car when I went to leave it for the MOT tester. I then tried the 2 button key and the car started, after that the normal key would start the car for a short while.
The 2 button key has a battery!

I didn't know they had them on this car but it's now common to have a passive chip in the key fob. the car sends out a pulse from around the ignition lock when thwe key is turned and the key responds with a coded reply. This is all done with no power needed in the key. (The pulse generates a power surge in the key fob) If the code response is known to the car it allows the car to start if it isn't it won't.
Havingt he old key close by will often be enough to allow it to start.
I suspect once the code is accepted the car will allow a non coded key to work until a certain time after engine off whent he alarm re-activates.
So when a dealer provides a key they also have to teach the car the code for the keyfob code so it will accept it.

Looks like they changed the system at some point then.
I've been using my 'copy' key (definately no chip in it) for a couple of months, without the original key fob going anywhere near the car.
But mine is an early car (registered Jan '06).

have managed to get a clonned key from the bolton lock company that works perfectly , cost £26.00!!! but q whole lot better than the £100 + we were quoted from a fiat dealer , we were lucky as the style of chip on our model hadnt changed ( 1999 model) after that the chip type had changed and it would have meant we wouldve had to go to a dealer to get one clonned so im well chuffed

Became a member today. I noticed in a previous message you obtained a replacement remote sender. The type with the one rubber button on the side. Can you tell me where you got this. Even if i could get an old one I am amsuming I only need to change the electornics. Mine works fine but its broken.
