My dad asked me to wire up a reversing camera into his motorhome, its got a fiat ducato chassis so i thought this is the best place to ask.

The van is a 2010 model with a 2.2 100 engine (i think its a ford unit?) and a swift body on the back.

I have all wired up except for the reverse light wire, is there a handy place on the fuse box that i can wire into, i know that F35 is the fuse for the reversing light but its always got 12v it doesn't turn on or off there. I need a 12v that turn on and off with the reversing light.

Thanks

What colour is the wire round the fusebox area responsible for the reverse light.

Firstly, wire colours change every three months in line with many of the 'french' vehicles - you need wire numbers as opposed to colours. These change too - but not as often.

Secondly, load in isolation or you will throw out the ECU/CAN with the extra load. It may cause immediate issues - it may burn out later. The voltage supplied to the light circuit must equal exactly what is used - it will 'shut them down' otherwise. People usually discover this when adding LED's (use less power)

You can get yourself a CAN adapter for around £100 - don't settle for cheap - this will tell the can what it wants to hear. Take the feed either from the reverse switch or from the rear light. Use a volt meter/light to test the wires.

These are can bussed aswell then:mad:

Having said that, the reversing camera already has its 12v feed, the green wire in the kit only needs a 12v signal to turn on, would that draw enough current to cause an issue with the BSI?

Btw who wires up these vans is it a PSA system or fiats, where is the best place to get a wiring diagram for it?

You may want to look behind you while driving forward as well. I connected the camera to the LCD monitor, both signal and power, so the camera comes on whenever the monitor is switched on.

Using the power supply lead as the signal wire, i suppose that would do, its a 2 camera setup with one of the cameras supposed to act like a rearview mirror so it should be on all the time, then the AV button can select the other camera which is facing down more so that it shows the rear bumper.

My camera is on a permeant feed, I use it as a rear view as well, it's even handy when I'm parked up as it's sometimes handy to see what's going on behind! Sod messing with ecu feeds and the like, wire it live or switch it via the ignition, your dad will be glad you did!

Note the air flow meter is on the same fuse as the reverse switch so fit a fuse of lower amperage between where you take the switched (reverse light) feed at rear light and camera so if it does blow it doesn't take air flow meter with it and engine light on etc '
