Hi, has anyone had their cambelt snap ? I did three weeks ago ,the van is nearly back on the road but i'm waiting for cambelt rollers ,they are coming from Italy as i was told there were no others in the country,i've been waiting for nearly 2 weeks, has anyone had similar problems with getting parts or is my mechanic just giving me bulls**t?:bang:

Hi,
I waited 3 months for a pin for the gearbox selector shafts. There were none in stock in europe and had to wait for a production run in Italy. You can check the status of the part at your fiat dealer.
keep well,
Torq

Hi Torq,
Thanks for your reply,i take it your Ducato is back on the road again?
Mine is still gathering dust and bird poop outside the garage where its being "worked" on.Worst thing is its opposite the unit where i am based so i see it every morning and every afternoon when i return from my deliveries.I am so frustrated but what can i do? I have got so angry with my mechanic but dont want to upset him too much cos the bill might go up!
So sick of having to beg ,steal and borrow vans !! Just want me baby back!!
will let u know what happens,it may take a while!

Than van is at last running again but it has an annoying squeal from i suspect the turbo under load, but i have read in another thread that it may be the injector leads? Dunno ?:bang:
Anyone got any ideas?

Hi
Just wondering what exactly happened to the engine when the Belt snapped how many Ks did it have on it? I have researched sourcing the rollers from bearing suppliers but when you give them a Fiat Ducato - Nil so I tried under the Iveco Turbo Daily 2.8 & have had some success with the larger of the two - the 67mm dia one, have yet to try direct from an Iveco dealer as they should in theory be the same as it is basically the same engine

Re above

My mechanic managed to source all the parts eventually but only after he rebuilt the engine without replacing the tensioner.Big mistake- the tensioner gave in when he was testing the engine in the workshop and it slipped and made the belt jump a few teeth resulting in more bent valves and another rebuild. It had already had a full head rebuild ,all new valves, guides and a skim. All at a cost to him !! :D .The van has done about 150k and b4 the belt snapped was running very well .I do a lot of multi-drop deliveries so the van stop-starts about 50 times a day which takes its toll on the belt.It wasn't due a cambelt for another 8k .Wish i had it done sooner ! I really miss driving the van  It was very fast and a true sprinter eater!!:worship:
I have actually bought myself a new van ,a Peugeot Boxer lwb 2.2hdi.I'm sad to say its a bit slow:mad: It needs a turbo chip!
Thanks for sourcing those parts tho!(y)
Just need to get the squealing turbo noise sorted now then its up for sale:(

Ouch! Lots of sympathy to all concerned. But there is a lesson here, maybe. The 2.8jtd requires a new timing belt complete kit (pulleys, tensioner, the lot) every 72k miles or 5 years. So if you had 150k on the clock when it went pop, you were 6000 miles overdue...

Personally, I find all these long service intervals very scary. Clean oil, clean air and clean fuel do an awful lot for engine life, and I certainly wouldn't trust to luck with a timing belt, but it's a sensitive subject!

I bought mine a year ago with 97.5k on it (2003) and found by a lot of digging into the service history that the 72k service hadn't been done -- the stamp in the log book was a fake -- previous user (who had it on a non-maintaining lease from Fiat Auto Contracts) told me on the phone that he hadn't bothered as it was "nearly 600 quid". My local Fiat dealer quoted be nearly 900 quid (I'm in Bristol) but I found a Fiat garage in Chepstow who were considerably cheaper. It's with them now.

i bought the van 3 yrs ago from an auction,it was a finance reposession and it had no history with it.It had 75k on it and i had the belt changed at 82k .It turned out that the belt had been changed recently anyways .
The van appeared to have been serviced regularly so i wasn't worried about anything. So actually the belt wasn't due to be changed yet.
I think that the work i do with the van takes its toll on the belts. The starter motor gave out after 2 1/2 years of multi drop deliveries ,stop / starting about 60 times a day!
I actually found that doing servicing on the van was very easy and cheap.Oil filter was around £11 air filter £20 and fuel was around £15.Just get some good oil so it all costed me about £60 each time.I serviced the van every 15k so that left me more money left over for the more expensive things that went wrong with it.New steering rack, bottom arms, strut tops new clutch.I kept it going as best i could!
My new van is not as fast but i can learn to live with that as i have just had a new alarm fitted with full closure and remote start!
