Hi,
I went to France and back in a day yesterday, a 600 mile round trip. When coming back from France last night in my MWB 98 ducato idtd the high tempreature warning light came on at around 150 miles. I stopped asap and checked the engine. It had plenty of water and didn't feel hot at all, infact it seems to run cold. The gague allways reads half way between 60 and 90 degrees. Anyway I stuck the heater on full blast and carried on. After about 15 minutes the light went off. So I turned the heater down. 15 mintues later the light was on again, so I put the heater on again. It was like this all the way home (3 hours). I would have run the heater all the time but it was getting hot in the cab driving in to the sun, and noisy witht he windows open.
It seems the light is effected by the temp of the engine as it goes go off when the heater cools it. I haven't checked the engine cooling fan because of the gague and the feel of the rad and pipe.
The van wasn't working too hard it had about a tonne in it and I was doing 65-70.
There was no sign of it boiling over when I took the expansion cap off with warning light on.
I wondered if the water pump impellar might have fallen off as I have heard of it happening. Or the themostat is stuck closed. But with both of those I would have expected the engine to boil over.
I am thinking dodgy sensor. Does anyone know where it is? Also is there a low water level sensor?
I have got the water in fuel light on all the time too, when the filter is clean.
Cheers Tom

Hi,

I have the same problem last night, driving my Roller camper, based on 1.9TD Ducato, year 1998.

When the warning light come on, I was driving downhill, almost without any gas. I stopped immediatly, the engine was warm, but not hot or cooling liquid boiling. Even the camshaft head was only warm. After few minutes, I started engine and drove for 300 km. There was no warning light any more.

I think it shuold be temp. senzor. Does anybody know, where is it and how can I check it?

Thanks,
Igor

only advice i can give, is on my fiat ducato 2.5d. the engine sensor is on the right of cylinder head, under the the thermostat, where top coolant pipe goes in . i changed both sensor and thermostat at the same time, total cost of parts was approx £50. all was fine and temp gauge stopped fluctating. from low to high and vice versa.

Thanks, I've check it out, and it seems, there was weak contact on sensor cables. I've pressed them a little bit together and there was no warning light any more. Also checked both relays for the fans and they are working perfectly: first switched on in about 85 degrees and other kick-in at about 92 degrees.

Have a nice day, bye,
Igor
