hello just wondering if someone can help , ive got a fiat ducato 1989 diesel motorhome , somewhere along the line someone has replaced the engine and gear box with a latter model engine ,it was a 2.5 and now it is a 2.5td from maybe a 91/92 model, the trouble is my gearbox keeps sticking in gear and the only way to free it is a partial engine strip so i want to replace it , does any one know if a talbot gearbox will fit this model and is there any way i could find out exactly what engine/gearbox is in the thing at the moment , cheers paul

Think the engine number is behind the fuel pump genius eh? Is the clutch cable or hydraulic?

hello corkman, yes its a cable clutch , does the fuel pump have to be removed to get the engine number and once its been read where would i get any info from regarding the engine type , thanks for your response paul

In theory you can search fiat eper by engine number but just tried it with an old engine number here and it doesen't really work.

Anyway the 2.5 turbo from 90-94 is an m4 engine seems to be the same as the 2.5 non turbo from 94-02.

Regarding the talbot gearbox it would have to have 16 inch wheels and be from turbo and may go the guys who know best are: http://www.delfindesigns.co.uk/

Change problems are very lightly to be the linkage / gearbox bush. Delin do a linkage conversion for £250 but might sell you the parts. Good info here:

I've only seen a couple of these and the last one was in 2003 but I think when the turbo was put in it should have had the wheel, hubs, brakes, master cylinder, servo etc installed with it as the brakes etc were uprated. I thought that would have been 16 inch wheels. Delfin designs may even have done the work on your van so its worth ringing.
