Hi.
After checking my bottom ball joints on my ducato 2.8 y2000, I noticed that as the steering is turned from lock to lock at slow speeds, there is a 'knocking' noise.
I have investigated and found that the spring is 'jumping' round in stages causing the noise.

Can anyone advise me of problems with the top bearing, if this may be the problem, or why this would be happening? I have to have it all apart soon, as the wrong ball joins were sent, so want to tackle the job at the same time.

Hi Paul, sounds likely;

"To take the thread lightly off-topic, one review mentioned that the facelift model has had the top strut mountings 'redesigned'......hmmm(noting that rolopolo had his replaced under warranty!)"

it's a needle roller bearing with a rubber seal eventually water gets in and the needles rusts. If you clean the surfaces for the seal to run on and fit with waterproof grease they should last a long time. Bearings are very cheap. With most vehicles you'd be binning the lot.
