We bought our Grande Punto Dualogic without the dualogic manual so have been driving it by trial and error. Have just found and downloaded the manual on this excellent site and am puzzled by this warning under 'Parking the car':

IMPORTANT
NEVER leave the car with

gearbox in neutral (
N).

What on earth does this mean? That we shouldn't leave the car parked in neutral? Surely not.

With all Auto's as far as I'm aware, the car should always be parked in P(ark). I'm not 100% on the mechanics of it but with a manual car you'd put the handbrake on and put the car either in 1st or reverse (depending on whether the car is parked on an incline or decline) so that if the handbrake fails the car won't roll away, same applies with an Auto box I think and the P setting essentially does the same thing.

Welcome to the forum by the way :)

The Dualogic has semi-automatic transmission and has no Park (P) position as such. Is Neutral (N) not the default park position, despite the manual apparently saying otherwise (as per my original post)?

we briefly had a panda duologic,

it's essentially a manual gearbox, with electronic changing.

so read it as "do not rely solely on hand-brake , also engage gear",
you will still have to go to "N" to start the engine on returning to the car,

I used to get LOTS of "warning "BINGS"" until I read the manual,

I hope that is a little clearer , worth checking on GP section too,

Charlie
