Technical Drive Shaft Flange: Weak Link?

I don't know if it's a good idea to "extend the Thread" down the HT Bolt.
I would think the threads on the Bolts are "Rolled Thread".
You will cause a weak point where you have cut/extended the Thread.
You would be better to buy new HT Bolts with the length of Thread you want.
Maybe i'm wrong but i wouldn't want to take the chance on Driveshaft Bolts.

I agree with your point Alan, but I think the suggestion above referred to using longer HT bolts with sufficient unthreaded shank to provide shear-strength where they pass through the driveshaft flange.

Having said that, whilst longer bolts don't seem likely to cause any harm, in my experience, they aren't really necessary.

I have seen a guy turn up at a car meeting complaining about noises in the transmission. Turned out that whoever fitted the drive shaft couplings had not fully tightened the 4 bolts each side so they worked loose and were systematically shearing off and was down to two loose bolts a side.
I have got a spare pair of new old stock drive shaft flange couplings here which should be good quality.
