Had my new stilo 1.8 dynamic 3 door four hours when passenger deadlock packed in, door now locked & unable to open it.[:(!]
Car goes in on friday to get new lock fitted, been told this is a common problem, no recall issued as yet.
also my front nearside bumper was scratched whilst i was in inverness.[:(!]
anybody else had this problem.
Should have known better than to buy another fiat.
Car drives great though

I had this problem door would not open.

The dealer had to break into the car from the inside and then found they did not have the parts to fix the problem.

This resulted in my car being off the road for around two weeks whilst the parts were shipped from Italy.

Make sure when you take the car in you tell them if they need to break in only do so if they have the parts.

And yes I will never purchase another Fiat again. Not because of the car but because of the service you get after!!

Hope you get it sorted.

yes I've had that too on the Passenger side door.

I also had a problem where the radio was cutting out. It was tracked down to (no, well actually after the service people gave up, I found the fault my self using a multimeter) the passenger wire loom being sandwiched between the chassis, and dashboard, squashing the wires (causing a short circuit to the speakers, and god knows what else.

However, the fault breifly reappeared a while back, but quickly disappeared. I put that down to a half-assed repair job to the loom. Sometimes I'm scared to let people in that door in case it doesn't work. B)

It gets worse though... Last week I had to take some workmates to a restaurant for a meal. All 5 of us piled in to the car. I go to start the engine, and a whole slew of beeps and error messages scroll past the screen. I'm like WTF??? Try again. Same story. Engine is dead. :( The faults stated stuff like "ESP error", "ASR failure", "Wiring Fault" or words to that extent.

So I sit there red faced for a minute or two. Then the sheer genius of my brains, tell the workmate in the passenger seat to get out. he does just that, and I slide his seat forward 5cm. He sits back down, I turn the ignition and the car starts first time! I can only put that down to the body mass measurement sensors under the seat having a poor connecton. So now if the door actually opens, then there is always the risk that moving the seat will kill the car. :D

boy euan u've had sum probs
my door is now fixed & scratches polished out.
lets see how the car goes from now on.
:D

Guess what guys, bloody door lock has packed in again.
Not bad lasted a whole week.
Told by the garage that the locks were being sent back to fiat for investigation blah blah blah.
Apart from that the cars going great, fairly flys along, not bad for a 1.8.

Does anyone know if Fiat have found a solution to this problem?
My passenger door locked about a month ago. The dealer installed a new lock mechanism which lasted one day before failing again. They have found the problem to be a small plastic worm drive which operates when the deadlock comes on. This sometimes travels too far and then can not reverse to remove the deadlock. At the moment they have disabled the deadlock function to stop it happening again. The local import is saying that Fiat have no knowledge of this problem. Printed out this topic and took it to the dealer.
Hence my question.

I had the passenger door problem too.

The dealer just happened to have the exact part in stock that day to repair it. Funny that !!

My passenger door lock has failed again after one year.

Apparently the lock has collapsed and needs to be replaced.

This will be the 2nd complete new lock mechanism.

Getting it replaced will be my 15th visit to the dealer in 14 months.

The car will be getting sold after this is repaired.

Shame, nice car to look at and good to drive but the build quality is shocking.

Hi, this is a very common problem as you can probably tell.
It has been a fault with the car since it was launched, the locking mech. has been changed and updated a couple of times but this has made no difference. Fiat are still trying to come up with one that works.
If it happens you can try to lock and unlock with the remote a couple of times while working the outer handle quickly, 9 times out of ten this will work.
PS when the warranty locks are sent back to Fiat and opened up there apparently has never been any faults with the units to cause it to jam.

Maybe the on-board computer is having a joke! ;) I'd assume this fault would be related to the driver lock option of "My Car" where when activated only the drivers door unlocks with the "plip". Maybe a bug, where even when driver lock is switched off it activates for some reason? Just a thought, ignoring the obvious "hardware" failures.
