Don't know where to start

I have had my BravoHGT155 for about 18 months now and I apart from 16inch alloys it remains as standard. I need for more power after test driving a 156GTA (waiting for the 147GTA) What can I do for more power, I have no idea where to start as I'm a novice without a clue about mods.

best way to start is to stick an induction kit and also a full performance exhaust system, and then take it from there (superchip, NOS etc)

It depends what you want to achieve. Are you looking for a huge increase? What's your budget?

You might get a couple of horsepower with an induction kit, same with an exhaust system (but be careful: a badly designed aftermarket exhaust can reduce power). However, these sorts of changes won't make a great deal of difference.

If you're serious about getting more power, you're going to need to take the engine to a specialist. I don't know what pistons and cams are available for your engine, or who has experience of modifying the cylinder head. Does anyone know a specialist for this engine? Normally tuning would consist of things such as lightened and balanced crank and con rods, new pistons, gas-flowed head with ports matched to new exhaust manifold, lightened flywheel, new cams etc etc.

This can cost a fair bit: my really basic MGB engine has cost me nearly two grand for an extra 50bhp, and I built and fitted that myself!

It's possible that someone may be able to fit the engine from the Coupe turbo, it's been discussed on here before. However, you need to define your budget first!

hgt

I know of a company called Prism Motorsport based just North of the M25 have done a lot of work on Bravo HGT's. I drove one recently (a 155 spec version) that had had it's head gas flowed, custom exhaust and induction kit. It was making 175bhp on a rolling road and was very smooth and quick to drive even at low revs.
I'm afraid I don't know any contact info for them.

156 GTA

Whats the 156 GTA like to drive? Is it as good as the press say it is and how does it compare with the standard 156 2.5 (if you've driven one) in terms of ride, handling, performance etc. I'm thinking of getting a test drive in the next few weeks. Cheers David.

Test drive

As you would expect from an Alfa the engine is awesome, the power is there from about 2500rpm and just keeps on pulling right up till about 7000 (and sounds good too). The amount of grip is also good but it has got 225x45r17 on. I can't really say much more as I only had the car for about 15 minutes. The only bad point I could make would about the driving position, I perfer the 147,in the 156 I felt that the roof and windscreen met abit too low. I have driven a 2.5 and basically it is every that is and more.
I'm now waiting for the 147GTA to come out next year, same engine in a smaller car, rocket ship or what!!
