Anyone know if tool required or how to do one for this engine please

No you don't need any fancy tools to do the 1.6, i have not done one but its near enoguh the same as the 1.4 in a GT, just non turbo - and i have done my GT recently.

The hardest bit is removing the crank pully, i had to go buy a 2' breaker bar and some more extensions so i could use said 2' bar. Its very very tight, you will need to put it in gear and have someone stand hard on the brake to stop the engine turning while you do this.

I stuck a socket on the bolt, then enogh extensions to get clear of the wheel arch and rested it on an axle stand so i could put loads of force on it, hope that makes sense to you.

Some are tighter than others.

I managed to break mine off wth a 1.5 foot breaker, while my helper was stood on the brakes. Key is short strong jerks, rather than a prolonged effort to break the torque of the bolt.

Once that pulley is off you can do it in quite short time.

If you don't have pics of timing marks may I suggest you buy a porters manual or similar?

cheers guys hope to get it done asap will let you know the outcome

Is there timing marks on the pulleys and the engine casing to match than up if not how do I get tdc on it

tbh, mine looked like it had never had a new belt put on it, so its been on there since factory probably. Belt was hammered and well loose, i regard myself lucky that it hadn't slipped or snapped. Thank the lord it didn't!

I might be wrong here, but are these non interferance fitted, so if the belt did snap, there is no damage to the values, engine, etc.

rgds Steve

So the elx 90 8v is dangerous if belt snaps and will damage engine am I right
