For the first service, Fiat filled my engine with 10W40 synth oil ...directly from a big unlabeled tank ...and there was only one oil tank in this garage (and it's true...)!!!!

Could it mean whatever your engine is, the oil is the same one ??
I suppose the anwer is yes ...

Nope just means your garage isnt servicing all the cars to fiats specs and should it get nasty with a warranty claim fiat would and rightly lay the blame on the dealer...

Theres not a great deal of engines these days that run 10w-40 especially diesel's with DPF's they must have a low ash oil usually a 5w-30

I may be wrong tho, im not often right so the boss tells me.....

Thought I'd reply to this thread although last post was 2009? I performed my first DIY Engine oil and oil Filter change although apparently done from the Dealer? Suspect a partial oil change where they have suck it out from the top of the engine and a wikks oil filter discovered, not even hand tight I might add! :( And oil was absolutely black when I emptied it! I purchased the Second hand Bravo 2 120t 8v with 50k on the clock just before Christmas last year and very pleased with the car Double checked it online with registration although in Halfords in their oil checking book in store states check in manufactures hand book and only Mobil 1 0W 40W performance diesel? A little bit misleading? The oil I used is the Halfords 5w 30w the purple/bronze colour bottle suitable for Peugeot/Citroen/Mitsubishi I hope I have made a sensible choice? plus a Mann air filter which is now nice a tight! http://www.halfords.com/motoring-tr...-peugeot-citroen-fully-synthetic-oil-5-litres

Mobil 0w40 meets loads of manufacturer requirements and is regarded as a very good oil in general. The diesel part in a lot of the new low saps oils is just branding, they are made for petrol engines also.
For example you can use 0w40 ESP Mobile one in the T Jet turbo cars.
Dark oil is generally a sign that its done its job.

Thanks this is reassuring!

That I have used the correct spec oil although Halfords own!

Just tonight the warning triangle light come up on the dashboard

, no faults displayed though? Turned Engine off then back on again, then symbol disappeared, what could that be? Thoughts? Nether had that before? Although brief!

Car doe's feel smoother and more responsive since oil and filter change though and even measured the amount oil coming out, so I could accurately as possible get 4.7 litres bang on!
