Technical doblo cargo suspension

does anyone know of an uprated suspension kit for the doblo cargo.the van is brand new and the ride is terrible much to soft,too much roll.if i dont improve it the van will have to go .is there any tuning companys anyone can recommend.

Hi.

I have uprated suspension on my Doblo (not a Cargo). I only found out when I needed new bushes and they wouldn't fit on the thicker springs. My local mechanic spent hours trying to figure it out until he asked the parts supplier, who told him about the rare and unusual variation.

When I went into a Fiat dealership they said that it is a rare option to have stiffer springs and that it had been fitted by them to a Cargo just two weeks earlier. So what they were saying was that it can be an option from new or they will fit it later at a price. Might be worth going to a dealership and asking. Dunno if they will have heard of it though.

We had our springs re-shaped and an extra leaf added, which makes the back end a little more ERF like. Job was done by Midland Motor Springs in Nottingham, cost around £400 +VAT including labour and we are very happy with the result.

When we bought Mrs_G's Cargo there were 2 options on the carrying capacity. The first was for a payload of up to 625Kg and the other was for a payload of up to 805Kg - both including the driver.

We went for th 625Kg as Mrs_G's Cargo rarely carries anywhere near its maximum as it is used as a courier van. I believe the versions with the higher payload also have a lower ratio and so are less efficient on mpg.

All the Doblos I have looked at seem to have saggy rears with the spring helpers pounded to bits, I see a lot of them used as taxis & most say new springs at surprisingly low mileages, for a van & people carrier I think this is poor.
Priced HD rear springs from Fiat Was told they were £173.99 x + vat Hmmm.
They are called Tropic Heavy duty and come with bushes.
My beast runs half loaded and bottoms out on any of Somersets larger bumps,the Berlingo I had before was a far nicer ride even after 200.000 miles,
The 2 side doors were the deciding factor when I changed, fuel consumption is good 48\50 however I drive but tyres & pads we wont even go there, lets say abysmal compared with the Berlingo. clutch at 98.000 I have never replaced a clutch or flywheel ( dual mass) in a vehicle I have owned before & most do 150 \200.000
Have had the back door not open as in another post broken latch mech this has happened twice, thermostat went a pain & costly, 2 wishbones easy job,
The stainless steel turbo pipe made in 3 pieces but only sold as a complete assembly at around £ 200 and a pain to change, indicators that don't cancel unless you turn a right angle corner, lumbar adjustment broke in seat back, (bit of manky wire broke) exhaust rotted off at welds on both cans.
It is a shame because I feel that there is a lot going for it as a van but the running costs per mile are nearly a fifth higher than the Citroen which was doing about the same MPG & had done 100.000 more miles when sold to a builder, who has done another 30.000 with only service and a set of pads & tyres.

I love my Doblo, but that sounds pretty fair.

I've not had all of those, but I have had the wipers going at four years and a drive belt going during the warranty. And brakes and disks and tyres, and windscreens (one every 18 months).

I need a full service and MOT next month: let's hope...

Spoke to soon NS link fell off, will try the £30 links as the thing is getting on my nerves, it is know, using water, discs again, second rear door latch, seat base starting to sag on left cheek am only 11stone again never had a seat break\collapse before at twice the mileage
Read posts for & against the links, like the split pin idea but has any one actually tried it? the ball assembly is hardened steel,
even with new drill no go.

Links came today good service from Wipex.
I would suggest you check the wiper spindles for free movement before fitting new Links,
I had removed the whole wiper assy a real easy job 2 sockets & a screwdriver, took 10 minutes.
The N\S wiper spindle was really tight in its bush!! this is the one that failed, to remove the spindle was easy it is held in by a C clip, stop clip rotating and push gently on other side and it pops off, under then there is a FLAT washer then an O ring presumably as a seal, the shaft should now slide out of bush, there is a crinkle washer at bottom of shaft, clean with Scotch pad, (would suggest not returning this to her indoors after use) have a real good look at the ball and clean polish if rusty, mine was re assemble with a healthy amount of grease, I did both just for peace of mind, then fit new links & re fit to Doblo.
It is strange that the N\S gives trouble and was the one with the tight shaft & rusty ball the O\S was free & ball without rust.
Now only time will tell if this is a cure ir the new links are no better than original
