Sounds like a wise decision, if they have had it for a long time and got nowhere, it does make you question.
The cost of a skilled diagnosis and the correct part fitted is often much cheaper than paying for some one "shooting a parts cannon at it" at your expense.:(
I recently sent a 2010 1.6 Fiat Doblo to the scrapyard and got £80, you could have had that High pressure pump for the cost of postage, sorry too late now.

I would still want to know for sure before fitting parts, do you have any access to diagnostics, many on here use MES and can advise (there is a MES section on Forum) I use MaxiEcu scan tool that runs on laptop Win 10, it has the advantage of once you hasve it you can add licenses for other vehicle manufacturers at around £30 a time, so mine does Fiat and now Citroen and Alfa (daughters car against my advice ;)) with something like those tools you can read the live data when trying to start the vehicle and it will give you results to point in the correct direction or eliminate unnecessary things.

me computer stupid bud, the head mechanic has snap on and maxiecu\mes all singing all dancin computers but ah dont think he can understand what they tell him ! showed me once but pressed buttons so fast i couldnt fathom what he was boasten about, asked him to take sensors out and clean em, ignored me if i was scum
That mechanic, all the gear and no idea eh!
I always explained to my customers what I was doing and why, if they were interested, male or female, many had stopped going to big garages for exactly the reason you say, I could talk to them, have a laugh, but explain it in a way they could understand.
 
Before replacing the HPFP, it really needs a basic check of fuel pressure and signals, otherwise it’s just guessing.
A proper diagnostic should be:
Check rail pressure while cranking (live data)
– You should see it rise to at least ~250–300 bar
– If it stays very low → then yes, suspect HPFP or supply issue
Check low-pressure fuel supply to the pump
– Is fuel actually reaching the HP pump?
– Blocked filter or weak lift pump can cause the same no-start.
Check crankshaft sensor signal (RPM while cranking)
– If there’s no RPM reading, it won’t start regardless of fuel
Check camshaft sensor (sync)
– Loss of sync can also give crank/no start
Check injector leak-off (return test)
– Excessive leak-off can prevent rail pressure building
Only if rail pressure is confirmed low and supply is good should the HPFP be blamed.
After 3 months and guessing parts, I’d seriously consider moving it to a diesel specialist with proper diagnostic equipment.
hello mike, update on van,picked up van from garage key fob working properly drove 60 miles van cut out dead quick,waited 10 min then started drove fine for return journey cut out again, waited 10 min drove home.
been sitting ther for a week, cleaned all pipes into injectors replaced filter, dash said small fuel leak,rechecked all fittings seem ok fuel not getting to fuel rail,seems like it is banned from getting ther,fitted new lift pump no air locks on lines you can hear it working fine, must b an immo problem,crankshaft and camshaft sensors were replaced by garage ,
two months in garage and worked for one day now back to square one !!
 
That sounds first like a crankshaft sensor problem description. I know you say it was replaced, but...
Faulty crankshaft sensor does that. Works ok cold and when getting hot stops working and fuel is cut off then by ECU because it does not see engine movements. Sensor tells the movement. Easy check is, when it happens and engine doesn't start, watch the RPM gauge. If needle stays down, it's the crankshaft sensor. If needle goes up to 200~300 RPM, crankshaft sensor is ok.
 
rev needle not moveing , if i take it out clean and replace do i have to enter some code or setting to be made,, will diconnect neg lead first, what spray to use t clean got maf spray, carb cleaner,wd or can i spray into crankhole t clean or not mike ?

No code needed. Simple replacement does it.
Disconnect just the sensor plug, no need to disconnect battery negative terminal.
You can use contact cleaner for contacts in car's wire connected to sensor. Or try cleaning it physically careful, with something little.
Take a pic of those contacts in plug, let us see if they are oxidised.
 
My 55 plate Doblo with 220 k miles ran perfectly then died on a 30m ,mile trip , cooled down for 10 minutes and I drove home no issues, tested with scanner and Crank shaft position sensor and fitted new so was sweet again
P.S I am the other Mike, no one likes me.;););)
