Hi,
I have an 08 model Doblo 1.9 jtd high top model ex taxi high miles , I guess it has had a different engine fitted . I had the Doblo in for an Mot the other week and it failed on emissions and visible smoke and a few other jobs needed .I can do the other jobs needed but my main problem is failing the mot on emissions and visible smoke. The EGR has been blanked off and the DPF has been gutted out ,
I noticed this while I was fitting a new middle bit of exhaust pipe. The DPF has the electrical wire still connected , the hose from the DPF is attached but is about a foot long but is not attached to anything and has a threaded bolt in the end to blank it off. There is a round cylinder type of thing around the manifold and turbo area it also has the rubber hose coming from it but it is not attached to anything just placed next to to radiator hose . Not sure if the turbo needs replacing or rebuilding or wether their rubber pipes have anything to do with exhaust emissions . Any help would be grateful and if anyone knows were these pipes attach onto.

No disrespect , but sounds high mileage and well bodged.
Suggest a good error code read to start with, are there and engine warning lights on?

Hi ,
Thanks for your reply , starts and runs ok but loss of power on hills and visible smoke from exhaust.
I do think its had another engine due to mileage and ex taxi , but there is lots of paperwork for work carried out on the Doblo .Past Mot,s with exhaust emission read outs and all ok.
I still just wonder if the trouble could be leading to turbo and if anyone knows were the rubber hoses should attach to. There are no warning lights on the dash.
Thanks again for any help.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply , I will look at this tomorrow. Should there be a bit oil from the pipe when I remove it.
Have these pipes been known to clog up.

Breather pipes can clog etc. but I think the pipes @varesecrazy is referring are the pipes leaving the turbo , going to the intercooler and on to the inlet manifold. As he mentions with the pipe off excess oil in there is a bad sign
Any loss of pressure along there can give black smoke.
Nothing wrong with buying an ex taxi as long as the price is right and you are prepared to work on it and spend some money.
However bear in mind they are only sold at the end of the working life when deemed not economical to keep on the road or local taxi regulations say it is too old.
I have had at least three over the years, a 1971 FX4 London Taxi, a Ford Mondeo and a Citroen C3 Picasso, all high mileage diesels with 200 k plus miles at least. All needed work.:)

I had an intercooler that was Half- Full of oil,

As soon as flow increased it smoked

Just uncoupling the hose will answer a lot of questions
Sounds familiar, I bought a Fiat Doblo1.6 with several issues including a blown turbo that was filling the intercooler, it took a long time to clear after new turbo.
Mind you that was the easy job the oil cooler pumping oil into the radiator was more of a pain.;)

Hi,
Just to say thanks again for your help with the problem with the Doblo and emissions. I pulled off the hose from the oil cooler and no oil poured out , wiped round inside of hose with blue roll to wipe out oil vapour.
On further inspection I noticed the air intake hose had a big split were it fits onto the turbo. Also the pipe that goes from the turbo to I think is part of the inlet was missing and manifold blanked off and the other bit on the inlet is open and nothing on it .I have bought a low mileage turbo with pipe work on and thinking about having this rebuilt .Can anyone tell me were the sma!l rubber hose goes to from the dpf and a small hose from the aculator or do they go together.

May be at slight cross purposes there, emissions breather pipe going to inlet after air cleaner should only have slight fumes in it.
The oil cooler issue I mentioned caused oil under high pressure to escape in the cooling system so the radiator header tank was full of hot oil and emulsified water, which also meant sump was being drained of engine oil into cooling system and escaping via the radiator pressure cap!!!
As @varesecrazy says look on "Look on the forum for ePER, And eLearn They Should give you lots of info" .
This should guide you re what is missing or blanked off.:)
