I am having truoble with a blank spot at 2600rpm this problem came up
after replacing the AFM and few days later fitting an enclosed INDK,i thought if anything performance was down.

and have been told to reset the ECU as it willhave set itself to the original airbox and AFM and will be confused.

does this sound about right,or wrong.

Yep and it wont hurt anything other than fuel economy for the first tankful to do it anyway.

so does this mean i have to reset mine now that ive installed my k&n air filter? and if i do how?

BRAVO, why settle for anything less.

There is a guide on this site under repair giud, but if you have to reset it after only fitting an INDK i dont know,as i also replaced the AFM but if the ECU is at the setting for the OG air box then i supose you will if that is the case.

but dont take my word for it im saying what i have been told so far.

Scotty.

Just disconnect the battery now and reconnect in the morning. Then go for a drive and drive normally. It will relearn the car and then settle.

You don't have to though. It will learn the filter anyway.

Oz

How long should i drive for IE 10,20 miles
it dosent say in the guid?

Scotty

It doesn't matter. Just drive as you would normally do. Go to work or go to see a friend or just go for a run to the beach.

Cheers oz

thats sanother nut of knoledge gained.

Resetting the ECU doesnt require the Red Key upon start-up again does it?

Nope no red key needed.

Just do the reset.

Start the car as normal and let the engine idle for 5 to 10 minutes.

Then drive you car as normal. When I say normal I mean don't boot it cos your giving your car the wrong idea about your driving.

Only problem with this is that you can't drive really short distances, it won't hurt the car just it doesn't have enough time to adjust.

If all you drive is 2 miles down the road take it further a field like in the coutry or something.

It should be all done after a couple hundred miles or nearly a full tank in a HGT :)

You fuel consuption will be slightly higher than normal whiles its adjusting but will return to normal, or if not slightly better.

NO, unless youve had the battery off a VERY long time and then you would need the red key to reprogramme your blue keys.

I reset mine when i was taking the stearing wheel off, forgot about it and booted my car around for the first drive, and then the revs were really irratic, it would stall itself alot and stuff like that so i had to reset it again, so make sure you drive nicely

Seb raised a good point. When we say drive normally after the reset, we mean drive like a normal person does. If you normally drive like a loon then we dont mean drive normally for you because your car will assume its always going to have an idiot at the wheel.
At the same time dont drive like yer granny, because when you DO try to boot it, your car wont give as good a respnse as you might expect.

Doesn't matter.

It will just take a lot longer for it to learn the engine as the ECU doesn't learn anything during acceleration or high throttle.

The ECU does not learn your driving style.

The ECU also doesn't learn anything for 10-15 mins after startup.
