hi guys,
i have a fiat uno 999cc FIRE engine. i am having problems with the distributor and the timing. The distributor has become noisy and is ticking like hell. Also, the timing is not steady and varies by up to 20 degrees sometimes at idle. Do you know if there is a way of fixing this? The distributor (not the cap) is not something you can buy as far as I know!

You have worn bearings in distributor. Go to scrapyard and try to find distributor that has no play in bearings (one bearing holds plate with sensor and other one holds shaft in place)

Did you take the distributor cap off before the ticking started?

Maybe it's not fitted correctly in the locating peg. Rotor arm could be hitting one of the HT contacts and the cap could be moving on the distributor body. This would explain both the ticking and the fluctuating timing.

Dave.

hey guys,
thanks for the replies. Sorry for not getting back at you earlier but was pretty busy! This weekend I am goin to dismantle the distributor and see if there are any worn parts and see if there is any play in the bearings!
Thanks
