Technical distribution belt

Hi gents,
just small question about the distribution belt
(timing belt), I don't know the proper english word,
but the belt that connects the camshaft with the crankshaft.
If this belt snappes, damage to the engine or not is the question
(piston / cilinderhead valves.)

timing belt or cam belt is fine.what engine is fitted to youre Tipo? E.g. 1400cc
