I still keep in touch with the guy who's doing up my old Isuzu. Went through some 'interesting' times in that vehicle: and it's hard not to detach the car from the events... (if that makes any sense...).

PS: Would you believe (I was very surprised) that "sentimentalist" originated in 1770-1780...? Cor...

Excellent - a new high for the FF, an etymological discussion. This is getting nearly as 'grown up' as the Volvo forum!

Sad, isn't it.

I guess we are just a forum of sentimentalists (new word?) when all is said and done.

When I sold my first one I kept the people "hostage" for about two hours until I finished telling them everything there was to know about owning the car, lol. :)
I think this video describes us well ;)

I'm sentimental about my cars too. When I left Australia I knew my 504 was going to be scrapped so I kind of tried to forget about it, I went for a last drive the day I left and that was that.

When my 406 was going to be scrappaged it was parked at my father in laws and the wife took care of that. I loved that car, but it failed me for the last time.....

Our Subaru should probably go off to be scrapped but I've just had a quote to get most of the rust sorted on it @ 750 quid it's not cheap but it's got sentimental value and there's not many around so it's not like spending that money on a Corsa when you could easily just get another better one :) Although when I take the rear bumper off, if I find any scary rust then that might be that.....

I have resolved that the 500 will be a 1 owner then scrapheap car. I really don't want to see anyone else owning it ever :)

It's funny, but until I had the Isuzu, I hadn't felt that way about a car for years. (I had lots of corporate Audis, etc. -- and, although they were lovely cars, they were just that: tools that fulfilled a need/duty.... Not like the Beetles and Escorts I had in my 'yoof' -- which I cherished, polished, and knew every nut and bolt of....)

Now, I find myself doing the same with the Punto. Plugging it into MES, the other night, was actually exciting, rather than a drudge; and -- especially as I've already invested quite a lot of money in the gal (as well as a lot of emotion) -- I, too, don't ever want to get rid of her.... :)

I could rabbit on for ages, but this post -- which also links to this one -- I hope, gives you an idea of how I feel....

PS: Getting back on topic: I certainly felt that way about the Dualogic TA Panda I had on order (now, sadly, cancelled...). That 'burble' is truly addictive... -- which is why I ended up reading this thread...! ;)
