Hi all new on here i have figured most punto flaws out for my self but am stumped now as i have found a plugged cable under the bonnet that is not connected to anything 9 prongs on it could this be a diagnostics port ect or does it belong somewhere im getting a judder going uphill like its starving its self of fuel thanks in advance soz if this has been covered couldnt find it lol :)

Shouldn't be a diagnostic socket. Someone might be able to identify it from a photo or from the wiring colours, but really need the full spec of your car. It's not uncommon for manufacturers to use one harness for a whole range of cars, so a car without (for example) ABS or aircon might well have sockets that can't connect to anything.

Apropos the juddering -- is the EML light on?

sorry its a fiat punto mk2 51 reg the wires are 2 green and one white it seems to be just lying there cant see where it would go and no none of the lights on the dash are on engine management light came on but I disconnected lambda sensors to see if that was causing the poor mpg/losing speed on a slight incline

1.2 8v 72,000 on the clock had another one until 2 weeks ago had much better mpg and not this losing power on slight hills

might be aplug for an alarm siren,

mine had one floating around back of engine,

just cable tie it out the way,

you might find another stray plug/connector near wiper motor too,

fiat ithink just use one loom for differnt models,
iguess to add on functions customer couid of had for extra Dollar,

juddering uphill is the equivalent of extra load on the engine so my thoughts would be old plugs poor leads
of course if it is this then next step is blown ecu if left to fester
with regards disconnecting lambda sensors this will achieve nothing but fault codes overfuelling and early demise of your engine

firstly do you run with sufficient fuel in tank
secondly when was the engine serviced properly

thank you all for the replies answers are yes always have between half and full tank of fuel and I have just bought the car from someone not had a chance to service it .I have removed disks and pads and removed rust ect as I know it is common for these to slow these small cars down quite a bit NEW FIAT FAST BECOMING THE SAME PROBLEMS AHHHA

mk 2 dont have sticky caliper problems like mk1 did unless obviously servicing regime is non existent till the pads groan help:)
good cars mk2/2b puntos but like everything they need maintenance or they let you down ;)

Thanks again for the replies guys i have someone coming out tonight with the diagnostics gear just incase im overlooking something

As told on earlier post that servicing my mk2 8v punto might help i did that new plugs (one was burst ) new oil flter, oil, but the problem is still there when going up hill ect im getting a judder as though im getting fuel on one turn but not the other its a small problem but does my ****ing box in its effecting my fuel consumption to i have cheked filter aswell for dirt but its cean any suggestion are welcome or someone has had this before thanks viva le punto !!!!!!!!!

Not knowing your car so kind of guessing here but me, I would look to see if they are stick coils. Get a known good working one from a brakers or even buy one if cheap enough and swap it in pot one, take for test drive then pot two and so on. You did not say if you swapped the HT. I have had cars lose power under load due to old cracked leads. How is it on the flat if you floor it? Could you have a fuelling problem?

The one by the wiper motor is for the OEM alarm siren, the other you mention won't be for this, but something else (AC compressor if not fitted possibly).

plugs where replaced as part of the service .as stated one was knackered .would it not be better to replace the coils and leads at the same time

and it is coil packs one with 2 ht leads and one with other 2 ht leads going to chamber 1 to 4

Hi,
on the FIRE engines the coil packs work in pairs.. 2 outer plugs = 1 coil pack ,
2 inner plugs = other coil [pack,

look at the state of the plugs,
if inner 2 are different to outer 2 = coil pack issue

1 plug different to other 3 = plug , lead or mechanical fault / low compression,

I read that the MIL did come on..? was that just because you'd unplugged the lambda sensor wiring briefly.. or did it come on while driving..??
